It's interesting that we're going back to the whole pocket watch thing with cellphones. In my opinion a wrist watch is the only piece of 'jewelry' you can wear as a man without looking ostentatious (besides a wedding ring). Plus, they're easy enough to check that you can do it unconsciously and maintain a sort of 'sixth sense' about the time throughout the day. And of course, you don't have to worry about your battery dying when you need it most.
But I recognize that I share this opinion with a shrinking minority, and it's this kind of shit that makes me feel old.

And thanks for the sieko prices ill get mine appraised later but i also think my generation the 13-18 year olds are starting to make a comeback in the watch community but they prefer more moder and not your average watch like nixon and swatch and sometimes offbrands that you get for cheap

Hmm I think the whole "jewelry making you look ostentatious" thing is a bit strange. I think the point of jewelry is to wear a sigil of something that actually MEANS something to you. Accessorizing for fashion is good and well, but I try to let my jewelry reflect my beliefs.
A watch, from my stereotypical stance, is a sign of a male who is afraid to wear other types of jewelry because for some reason, jewelry is a feminine trait.
Watches (and gold chains/diamond rings, etc..) are the most ostentatious thing a man can wear in my book, when used as a status symbol
(protip: I actually don't wear watches because I have hairy arms, and it looks weird.)

I was just thinking about wrist watches last week.
Its a very strange thing to me. I don't think i've ever been in a situation where i had to know the time, but i couldn't guess it or find a clock/someone with a cell phone somewhere.
during my day to day life the only time i ever have no clue of the time is right when i wake up.
Okay, but even if you don't want to rely on external sources for the time, i don't understand the need for expensive watches. A 5 dollar watch looks fairly similar to a 700$ watch, looks remarkably similar to a 20,000$ watch.
as near as i can tell, watches are pure status. I will never need a non-digital device that can keep accurate time past the minute, much less past the second.
I don't know, most of the time i just guess the time, works pretty decent for me.
I would wear a 20,000$ diamond encrusted necklace with the word "wobble" over wearing a watch of similar price. Because i have no taste.

A 5 dollar watch is going to be a piece of crap. I bought a fake Movado in China Town for $20. After having it for about 5 months the nickel plating started to wear off, exposing the copper that the band was really made out of. The pins in the band also started to bend. And best of all? IT LOSES 1-2 MINUTES EVERYDAY! You get what you pay for.
And watches are both functional and fashionable. It's convenient to be able to just look at your wrist if you want the time; digging your cell phone out of your pocket is a pain in the ass.

I picked up a decent Fossil for $60 at an outlet store. My favorite reasonably priced brand is Skagen though, they make these UBER thin watches (I'm taking 2-3mm thick), which is nice if you hate bulky shit on your wrists. Their wristbands are also highly adjustable too, no need to go to a jeweler to have them take out/add links. They're usually $70-$120 and are pretty damn durable. My only problem with them has been that I cracked the crystal on the front of 2 of them, but I was being dumb and doing shit like construction projects and moving while wearing them. That reminds me, I need to send those fuckers in for repair.
Here's a Skagen slim watch:

Yeah I have a call phone, and it's a lame fliptop crappy one, but it serves as my organizer/calender, communicator and adress book all in one. What do I need to have a watch or iFone for?
Just sayin'.
