We dun goofed. On the real though we have been raping her for all shes worth the past century and shes gonna lash out with a vengeance when climate change really gets rolling, Its like a dam failure it starts off with a small crack leaking a miniscule stream of water it isnt anything really not even noticable but that small stream starts eating away at the foundation and the super structure till eventually its not just a small leak and the whole structure gets weak enough that it catastrophically fails. There are so many delicate systems that create a compounding positive feedback that grows exponentially once the earth warms up enough.

so i don't know how big jupiter is, but just for giggles lets just say this fireball was the size of the moon which im guessing is smaller than it actually is. So, shouldn't we be looking up and be seeing a big ass fireball in the night sky right now?

if you go to the spaceweather website they talk about it alittle bit but it basically sounds from what i can tell from all there mumbo jumbo talk is that its going to slightly hit the earth? then like in the bottom left hand corner they say list a bunch of percentages for 3 differen things and the highest one says 35%

Mad_Larkin said: Realistically, there's any number of scenarios that could put us in an "end of the world" type scenario where a huge percentage of the population could die. Not everyone, but enough for it to be an apocalypse.
That is nature's way. It has happened to humans before, and it will probably happen again. When a species is under pressure and the population shrinks a lot, then there is less space occupied in the eco system and species narrow down in their genetic diversity. This happened to modern humans from a volcano in the south pacific, we lost a lot of genetic diversity. A species gains genetic diversity when the environment changes, other species go extinct and the left over species now have room to fill new niches in the eco system. This is what is happening now, and has been happening since the end of the last ice age. The environment has changed, some species died, new species filled the gaps, ramped up the pressure and the cycle continues. This is how new species get made. At this point, over the next thousands of years our species has a greater change of bifurcating than going extinct. But surly this will not last forever.
But the notion that earthquakes, wars and solar storms are somehow connected or somehow novel is crazy. This is part and parcel of natural history. The world is getting better for a lot of species, and humans are one of them. You can use many basic metrics to judge this by... the amount of calories available to eat, the amount of joules available to do work, the life span, infant mortality, increasing population, genetic diversity, the list goes on... Global poverty has dropped drastically in even the last 30 years. To argue that things are getting worse you have to literally discount all of those metrics as somehow 'irrelevant' and then appeal to a mythical standard of the way the world 'should be'. There is no way the world or eco system 'should be'.

Anyway, end of the world aside. This solar flare will probably lead to some awesome auroras in the Northern hemisphere.
