Noob WBS question, add popcorn?

I got premium WBS and it doesn't have cracked corn in it, I got some regular popping corn and I was going to mix a little in before I soak.
Is this a good or bad idea?
I have read many bad reports about cracked corn, should I look up a pop corn tek and soak my WBS and popcorn separately per the teks before mixing. Or should I just leave out the corn? Opinions?

popcorn won't hurt but they (WBS and popcorn) can be used separate as well. if you want to mix them, mix them dry and soak together for 12-24 hrs and bring to a slight steam before pouring into colander.

I would (if at all) mix them seperately, mainly because I would never boil my WBS as long as the popcorn. I have only done popcorn once and I have boild it for 45min. I had one jar left and mixed it with rye, that was after colonization though. It worked ok.

Be careful with popcorn.. I know its cheap but it can be a pain in the ass to get the moisture content proper because it is such a bigger kernel of grain..
Also they don't have as many inoculation points as wbs or rye because of the grain being bigger..

If I pasteurize and steam shake dryWhat I meant to type was, if I soak 24Hr and then boil it, what should the pop corn consistency be to mix with the hydrated WBS? As in should it be boiled till soft or just boiled till slightly hydrated(moist but still firm), dunno never done this before? My 3 pints of ELME are growing like crazy so I will probably use those.Should I be able to squeeze it and squish it to nothing or if I squeeze it should it still be firm in the middle?
I will just follow the boil/soak time for them separate, but do it at same time, cool, mix in big bowl and spoon into jars, would it be better to have it less hydrated with WBS mix. Since it will be whole corn I guess it wouldnt hurt to get it fully hydrated, but I don't even know if less h20 is better than more h2o on WBS like it is for everything else, not like water pooling but like boiling grain till they pop...
I was only going to add about as much corn as there is sunflower seeds, and that ain't much, maybe 2%?
Someone point me to a good tek or tell me how you tell if the WBS is cooked long enough and if the moisture is right?

Are you using this mixture as a fruiting substrate or spawn?
If being used as spawn , I , myself , would leave the popcorn out.

There isnt really a tek to tell you if the wbs moisture content is proper.. It's kinda a feel by hand, you have to have some experience to know what it feels like..
The grains should be firm yet soft lmao.. They should not be so soft that they turn to mush in your hand but when you give them a squeeze they should pop like a pimple..
Moisture content is one of those things you just kinda need to get a feel for so to speak.. You will eventually learn what it feels like just by touching the grain..

TYVM! I will just leave the popcorn out since I am spawning it to zoo poo sub.
Can you just add some gypsum in the soak water and then shake it when it is steaming (like RR does rye) to dry the outside instead of spreading it out to dry?<--- afraid of invisible floaties in house, trich is everywhere around here

After the soak, simmer and drying phases, you're putting them in jars to pressure cook, so don't even think about contams at that point. Trich won't survive the PC cycle.

yeah derr, my brain hasn't been on the right wattage lately, scatterbrained, too much on my table
My ELME LCs that you taught me how to make are doing awesome BTW, they are halfway filling the jars and look like rhizo in some spots, one has a spec of myc growing half in half out of the water. Thanks afrosheen!

The half and half myc may not be a good thing. I guess you'll know when you shoot some test jars with that LC and see what happens. Regardless, glad I was able to help you with the stirrer, they're pretty neat.

I thought they were golden since I made them from a healthy GLC?

Remains to be seen. I don't doubt that healthy myc can surface and "live on the top" as well as suspended in the liquid, but I know lots of molds and other crap will stay on the surface. That's why a few BRF test jars are a good idea, to answer the question.
Not trying to be negative, just being realistic. That's the downside to LC's, you're never really sure what else is in there until you inoculate some jars. You can spot healthy growth but invisible demons can be there too.

My 7 rye jars noced with the same GLC showed 6 days of no growth and then took off like crazy, I guess it is all the hidden growth inside since you noc the whole jar not just spots and shake them after noc, noticed first little pencil eraser size spots of white yesterday and now they are about 4"x3" with tons more little spots all over the jars growing from the inside to the out!

I am making 15-18 **PF jars** tonight from the last of my GLC *Adding 1/4 tsp of fresh coffee grounds, 2 Tbsps of gypsum to the long grain brown rice when I am pulverizing* with it on the top setting on my blender for 1/2 hour(*adding powdered gypsum to keep rice from clumping while blending, and when its near done add fresh coffee sprinkling it in slowly and then blending on high another minute or two*)(**per RR's BRF TEK amounts on verm/brf/water) Plan on making them hydrated but on the dry side so I can pump them full of LC to hydrate, so when I get the verm saturated I will add water until it just drips when you squeeze hard.
Hey, don't my grain gars count as test jars?
They were from the same myc/jars used to make the LC from the GLC.
Spores have been germinated for all these for one generation, they have been transfered from Rye in a clean still room while I wore a dust mask and gloves, sterilized the SHIP with rubbing alcohol b4 I stuck the needle in, flame sterilized the needle and cooled it off with alcohol soaked towel. Was done in closet 10-15 minutes after I ousted outside the door, and inside a little. The grain jar looked great and had just recovered completely from a shake 4-5 days before. The jar was sterilized so the only way I could get a mold contam is by getting it from xfer from jar to jar right? I was more worried about bacteria than I was about trich spores, even though there is trich growing in my windows and one of my "H-C" faucet handle covers. I am afraid to open it, I just spray it with lysol every now and then hoping it will run into the crack...bla bla bla I will stop rambling now and check my temp.

Stay away from coffee, you want spent coffee grounds, not fresh, if you're going to go that route. I don't think it's worth the risk personally.
Try this for fun. Make a pot of coffee, take the filter out with the spent grounds in it and leave it in an open container in your kitchen for a few days. See what grows there. Now, imagine that in your sub.
