Santa Anita Derby

Upon a search, there haven't really been any horse racing posts in almost a year
The Kentucky derby is getting close, just over a month, and some of the most exciting races are going on in the next few weeks.
Tomorrow is the Santa Anita Derby.
The 10th race is where all the 3y/o Kentucky Derby contenders are:
http://www.santaanita.com/sites/default/files/live_racing/programs/full/2011-04/fullprog-2011-04-09.pdf
This is a 1 1/8th mile turf track, so the horses with good sprinting speed are going to be the winners here.
Premier Pegasus who was one of the lead contenders for the derby has dropped out with a bad foot. Off to the glue factory with this one. Jaycito was also going to run this race, and had moved up to the 2-1 favorite before some abscesses on the feet made the trainer drop him from the program. Jaycito was also a frontrunner for the Kentucky Derby and I wouldn't put my money on him for that event.
Anthony's Cross(9) is sitting at 4-1, but will likely be down to 5-2 or less by the morning as he's the new favorite along with Silver Medallion(4) at 7-2, which again will move down to 5-2 or less by morning Silver Medallion hasn't raced in 56 days either. Anthony's Cross won here in February, but hasn't raced since. His performance will really dictate if he gets to the Kentucky Derby or not. He's got prolly the best speed records for this, but at a 9 post postion he'll really have to drive to the finish. Ill have a few bucks here.
Comma to the Top(5) is a really good pick and has a really nice post position, but he'll be driving against Silver Medallion from the outside off the start, so it maybe a challenge. At probably 4-1, I'll have a few dollars here, but Comma to the Top has had trouble in his past few races with duelling to the end, and not drifting to the outside. Since Silver Medallion will be on his inside, its likely he might just give up in the second half.

At the Wood Memorial Derby, Uncle Mo is pulling crazy 1-5 odds, and is the favorite at the Kentucky Derby. This race is a wash, but I might throw a few place bet and show bets because there are some crazy 50-1 and 99-1 odds.
Good Luck & Happy Racing Shroomerites.

Also apparently Uncle Mo shit the bed in the Woods Memorial. I didn't bet, but it was a huge upset. The morning line was 1-10. I'm sure the of the winner, but he must have been paying out huge.
so... No one likes horse racing? Not even to launder money? Or kill an afternoon getting pissed and hoping to win a couple of bucks?

I love the track but I hate gambling. Go figure. Occasionally if I'm near a beautiful track on a nice sunny summer day I'll go place about 20 $2 bets. I love Saratoga and Keeneland. Belmont is kind of a shithole and so is Churchill Downs. I like to study the tote board right up until just before post time and look for aberrant betting lines, like disproportionate win bets to place and shows. OTD is a ripoff.
If you have never been to Saratoga you really must make it a destination. They parade the horses right through the crowd and the jockeys walk right through as well. You have to dress appropriately to get in the grandstand, but even wearing shorts it is still a real throw back experience to when racing was the sport of kings.
Uncle Mo looked like he was running in molasses down the stretch after decent fractions. I might be inclined to toss this result and see if he gets a bargain price in the Derby. Assuming there isn't anything wrong with him physically.
