Ps. cyanescens outdoor bed (pics)
    #14263406 - 04/09/11 03:06 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I grew out some Psilocybe cyanescens spores from a wild (US) print on agar, which I then turned into an LC.  I inoculated a couple of rye grain jars with that, and when they were colonized, I boiled/soaked some alder chips and mixed the grain and wood together into a pair of spawn bags.  They colonized pretty quickly, and they've been ready to go for a little while now.

I picked an old wheelbarrow in my garden (it has been used for growing other things before) for my outdoor Ps. cyan patch.

It was pretty overgrown with weeds.

I also weeded a lot of other stuff in the garden .  Today was garden "spring cleaning" day.

Here are the spawn bags.  When I cut the tops off, they had a great mushroom smell.

I crumbled the first bag, and spread over some boiled/soaked hardwood chips that I found in a local forest

Crumbled the second bag, and added more chips

Then I covered it with 1-2" of 50:50 compost:peat from the store, and added back some of the 'natural' soil that I'd removed from the wheelbarrow

Then I sprinkled a little bit of rye grass seed on top, sprinkled some water on the whole thing, then dusted a bit more soil on top

I'll add more in a few months, if anything happens

They'll get a little bit of direct sunlight in the morning, and then they'll be shaded for the rest of the day.  There's some vine overhanging the wheelbarrow.

I saw a few undigested rye kernels.  Hopefully the fact that they're buried will help deter rodents, as will the fact that our garden mice get fed regulary.  I like them, and they keep our cat entertained.  I put out the rye from any failed jars, or else I leave plates of seeds out for them.  Keeps them out of the house.

I challenge you to challenge yourself more! When you feel complacent and ready to hang it up, challenge yourself to get over it! If you fail, don't look at it as you didn't succeed, look at it as you would a rock face you're trying to climb. Stand back, wayyyy back, and look at it and plot another path. If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need.

Anything I state is relayed information from a friend of a friend and should be viewed as completely fictitious. I do not partake in any illegal or grey-area-of-the-law activities, but do have lots of friends who may or may not.    -fngbronco
