hey man, make sure you dont take anything personal on this site. you`re going to be insulted and probably ridiculed and discouraged some what, being new and all. thats just the type of behavior that is tolerated and allowed to happen here. dont make a mistake and say something wrong about mushrooms or cultivation, everyone here is absolute pro`s and have never, never made a mistake in anything, ever!! so just so you understand. any-who, good luck with your grow and i hope all is well.

well thanks for the welcomes and it's okay it's just the net from most of the posts I've read the people that know what they're talking about usually don't call names or get into silly fights as far as people correcting when i say something wrong i hope they do knowledge is power and misinformation can be dangerous when dealing with fungus now back to my Q's what would be a yummy easy couple of strains that i can do indoor and outdoor with my daughter in northwest Indiana ? from the stamets book it seems oyster's is a starter strain but I'd like to do more than oyster's my parents love the taste of portabella i haven't looked into those yet i was thinking maybe a strain that would be marketable to the local gourmet restaurants I've read alot and I've looked through alot of posts and I'm keeping up with that i just thought it would be nice to hear a few people chime in with personal experience/knowledge thanks all who reply

Your style of writing makes it challenging to want to continue reading.
More spaces would be better.
Oysters are definitely your best first bet. There is a wealth of information here that boggles the mind.

The general consensus seems to be Oyster mushrooms are an easier way to get into growing. I personally started with Shiitake through buying a Shiitake block that was ready to go. It was good to start out easy. Starting with a purchased kit the learning curve isn't so steep and you're almost guaranteed to start out with success.
But there are lots of options. Whatever you choose to do most of the info you need can be found right here.

Sorry about the writing. yes i figured I'd start with some oysters
maybe even two different strains. my daughter wants to try the pink or
the golden. stamets says most people don't like the golden's taste
though and although my daughter likes alot of different tastes she's
really only eaten button or portabella, and i guess that's why i am
asking personal opinion's on what's easy and yummy in the oyster family
and also maybe some other strain I kind of forgotten about pre-spawned
kits maybe I'll buy one of lion's mane or something like that i have
confidence that i can get oyster's to grow probably true with most
things i want to start I don't know I'm working 6 days at the moment
and only have time to read after i get off @ midnight so I was just
trying to make sure what is and isn't to late to start this year
for outdoors in my area seeing as how nwi has late frosts and early
winters I'd hate to buy something that takes 3 months spawn take it
outside only to fail due to 2 cold of weather like I've said I've read
i am still reading i know oysters will be fine but I'd like 2 try one
or 2 other species i guess i don't like putting all my eggs in 1 basket
or that i love having alot of little projects going instead of 1 big
project anyway i know taste is opinion please give me yours

My daughter love oysters and shiitake (of course before i started on the mushrooms all they knew were button mushroms). They will eat the pink but normally only deep fried in a batter.
The yellow oysters like it hot, the taste is somewhat grainy to me and never really grew on me. But people are fascinated by the colour.
A good shiitake strain will be fine for the winter period, they can be technical but there are many who have gotten it right.
Good luck let us know your progress

I personally love the taste of shiitake, and don't think anything can beat it. As for oysters, I've read that King Oysters taste the best.
Good luck! This sounds like a wonderful project to be doing with your daughter!
Also, nice job spacing out your lines.
But if you do spend time in books, you're probably familiar with those other things they put in to help you Read and Understand.
Some call them 'Sentences'. You can tell where they are by the 'Punctuation Marks'.
I highly recommend adding these into your writing... it does wonders. Give it a shot sometime!

Everyone that tried my first Shiitake flush were amazed at how good they tasted. Even people who generally don't like mushrooms, meaning the common supermarket variety.
On the other hand I've been told by those who know that King Oysters are very tasty, easier to grow and produce more food than Shiitake. So you might like to go in with King Oysters. Keep it as simple as possible and just make a start.
