Hemp seedlings * 1
    #14262812 - 04/09/11 11:56 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So here are my dog's seedlings. Some local strain (mainly sativa), the seeds came from a friend's own crop. Do they look a bit etiolated or are they OK?

A boutique strain - ultra haze. This doesn't look etiolated (quite young and sprouted mainly outdoors), but one of the cotyledons has a yellowish corner. Hard to take good pics of such a small one, though.

If the stems get a little too long just repot and burry them deeper so that the soil can support the stems. Looking good and good luck. Get some sort of silica action going on. Rare Earth from General Hydroponics, Silica Protekt, a fpe made of stinging nettles or horsetail are some examples. Depending on how deep you get into it, you could get some worm bins going. Those two plants can be vermicomposted in. The horsetail takes a while to break down so it can be used as something of a perlite replacement or suppliment.

Here are some new shots. The local strain: one of the plants still looks a bit leggy to me, even after putting them outside to enjoy full sun. Should I worry about that?

The boutique haze looks right. The yellow tip on one cotyledon is turning green.

Careful reburying elongated ones though. I've seen them croak to fungal rot if you get them buried too far up the stem.  About half way up is as deep as you'd want to go. Otherwise, the plants immune system can't fight the fungus.

If your soil has healthy microbes to begin with, that shouldn't be a problem unless your mix doesn't provide enough air/drainage.

Soil was ProMix supplemented with Worm Castings and Perlite (to balance aeration/drainage of added worm castings).  It probably would've been fine in straight ProMix, but I'd still use caution if you're going to supplement with any organic nutrients with young seedlings. Undoubtedly there was some bad luck involved, because some of the plants did fine.

Oganics are a non issue so long as they aren't pathogenic organisms. I have been using spent soil with a little extra perlite to start my seedlings off in. I haven't seen the slightest sign not to. Having a posisive mycrobial safety net is going to make your seeding more resiliant

Boutique strains are SO sensitive! They really need to be pampered. Here's what happened after 2 days without water:

The local strain is thriving happily, while the boutique Haze seems to be gone for good. My dog seems very sad, on the verge of upset :frown:

It means a strain with a fancy name whose seeds are bought at boutique (high) prices as if they were gold; as opposed to a seed someone gets for free from a live plant they grown, known and loved (and in some cases used).

The seedling is in a black pot which the color absorb more heat than the red one. I could be one factor for drying out faster. I notice it for my plants they wilt more easily then the the one in yellow planter. The yellow one remain much cooler than the black pot during summer with full sun blazing on them.

Nice looking plants man. I've got some seedlings that are about the same size as yours in your first post. I love grow threads! Best of luck on your grow. :peace:

The local strain survived 2 days of total drought (my caretaker failed to comply :mad2: ). The smaller one was seriously stressed but it recovered. The stress was so serious it looked like wilting and wanting to die; I am afraid it could turn into a male even coming from a hermie parent.

Here is an update.
The half-burned plantlet doesn't look too good.
I've got a replacement seedling, but it's unusually slow and I am afraid it won't take off :frown:

You should have put them in separate pots.

Could it be possible the healthy one is choking the other out?

That's what it looks like to me.
