A phone survey asked Mississippi Republicans (self-identified) whether they thought interracial marriage should be illegal. Not "wrong", but illegal.
46% said it should be illegal.
Before you say "see, that means most of them have put their white hoods away!"....
Only 40% said it should be legal.
14% were "not sure" (?!), i.e. were uncomfortable giving their opinion to the pollster. We can only speculate as to their reasons.

Seems like overkill, but I guess I've gotta throw in some editorial content. Let's start with this: Do you suppose that the 46% of Mississippi Republicans who want to return to segregation represent the MODERATE wing of the GOP, or perhaps the ULTRACONSERVATIVE wing, otherwise known as the Tea Party?
Please explain your reasoning.

i find people don't know what the hell they are talking about when they describe themselves a member of democratic or republican party. it's for groupthink, tribalistic, societal reasons that people label themselves. which sports team do you follow?
i also believe the "tea party" was a hijacking, redirecting of the coverage of political unrest caused by the failing dollar.
those people just sounded racist to me.

I'd say loaded and biased poll by the left. It doesn't represent the views of the many republicans at all. But way to eat that ridiculous shit up since it conforms to your stereotypes about the "tea party."
In other news, I went to athens ohio and conducted a phone poll with the ultra liberal hippy population. 75% reported that they would not be opposed to making it mandatory that everyone ate mushrooms once in their lives. What does this say about the general democrat population? jack shit, just like your poll. But it would make a great headline.

Hard to know if it is biased, but it is being presented a bit unfairly... however, they do not go into detail about who they polled, other than to say:
Quote:
PPP surveyed 400 usual Mississippi Republican primary voters from March 24th to 27th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-4.9%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.
Did they choose 400 "usual" Mississippi Republican primary voters from a single ultra-conservative district, or was it a random spread across the entire state?
Regarding the being presented a bit unfairly bit:
Quote:
Q15 Would you describe yourself as very liberal, somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat conservative, or very conservative?
Very liberal ...................................................... 4% Somewhat liberal ............................................ 4% Moderate......................................................... 17% Somewhat conservative.................................. 36% Very conservative ........................................... 40%
Sooo... 40% self-identified themselves as very conservative. Is it any surprise that:
Quote:
Q14 Do you think interracial marriage should be legal or illegal?
Legal............................................................... 40% Illegal .............................................................. 46% Not sure .......................................................... 14%
Gee, 46% answered the question very conservatively. Pretty close to the 40% that claimed to be very conservative. Go figure...
I also find it interesting that of the "400 usual Mississippi Republican primary voters" around 8% of them self-identify as being very liberal or somewhat liberal.

It doesn't say how many of them were Negroes, either.
