HEPA filter... what do you think?

So, I'm looking to invest in a HEPA filter for my edibles. To be honest I don't know a ton about them and I was wondering if I would be better off building one or buying one like this? It comes up to a total of 106 so it seems worth it, any thoughts?

Even if you buy that there will be some construction you'll have to do.. It's a little small, but should work if you can get the laminar flow setup correctly. What kind of hood are you going to install it in?

I didn't know a flow hood was necessary? I read the information about constructing one on fungifun but I think it only mentioned a blow and a filter...

I was just wondering what you were going to put the filter in, like a glove-box or plastic tub or something?
You could even just buy a cheap plastic tub, cut 2 holes for your arms and then another hole to fit the filter on top. Seal the filter to prevent any leaks. Buy long rubber gloves and tape them through the 2 holes.

If u buy a hepa filter you also need a blower to push air through the filter to create clean air.. This is done by using a blower, but then you need to be able to contain and control the flow of the air so you need to build a box or housing for the filter and blower.. Using a plastic tub isnt gona work properly..

Did you look at the link I posted of my flow hood build, do you see I built a wood box that holds the filter and acts as a plenum for the air..
Here are some more flowhood builds to give you idea of what you have to do.. You dont have to go so complicated but you still dont want to use a plastic tub..

Yeah, might as well do it up if your gonna get a HEPA filter and all! Although, I have a feeling that you are trying to just do a basic setup - if you don't want to go crazy, look at a plastic tub glove box.
P.s. you don't see wood in cleanrooms for a reason!
good luck! medici

I don't think a plastic tub glove box would work though.. without a blower putting some kind of air pressure through the filter it wouldn't work.

Yeah, you'd have to make a plenum and what-not, like Damion5050 did with a blower.. but since that HEPA has a small foot print (12x12) it would be most efficient in a small area like a plastic tub. I've seen HEPA's hooked up to plastic tubs that were very efficient and portable (if needed). Plus plastic is cheap but durable and can be sanitized easy. Now if you buy a full-size HEPA, now plastic tubs would be way too small! It just depends on how big you want your workspace man?
