Making music on pc(not preasure cooker) :)
    #1426010 - 04/03/03 11:35 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Hi there! For some time now, I've been thinking of creating some music since I have these beats in my head all the time. Can anybody show me any direction? I mean what programs should I start with? I know nobody that makes music, so I don't know what to start with. Thanks a lot.

Check out Soundforge and Cubase  They're pretty complicated at first, but with some practice, eventually you can make almost anything you can come up with in your head.

I use cakewalk guitar studio and record guitar to my PC. Or Evolution Audio Lite for my MIDI files...
Evo Audio Lite is excellent!

Reason 2 much easier to learn. More people have it. Generally used program. Its a virtual mixing studion.

A great starting program is Fruity Loops. You may not be able to do as much with it as you can with other programs, but it's easy to learn and you don't need a keyboard. I've created at least 7 albums' worth of tracks with it.

i agree- start with fruity loops. diving into more complicated stuff could hinder you getting to know how to do simple things

You can't beat sonic foundry's Acid Pro 4 as far as I'm concerned. If you don't have the means to generate your own audio, you can buy sample CDs which are "acidized" and the loops will automatically fit into whatever key and tempo you have set. And you can use Direct X plugins to add effects to your sounds.

Apparantly you can do the following, but I wouldn't know anything about it..

Search on Kazaa for "Radium," "Paradox" and "Oxygen" to get cracked plugins and audio programs. Also, to get acid 4, just download the demo from www.sonicfoundry.com, and unlock it with a keygen by searching for "Acid 4 keygen" on google or kazaa. The keygen makes a serial for you which will turn your demo into a full functioning program.

good luck and don't forget to share your tunes when you're done!

I would NEVER recommend fruityloops to a beginner...... I think its essensial to start off with a highly complex program so that from there you can easily pick up other software suites and almost already know what you're doing

Strumpling I agree- I think Acid and cubase SX are pretty good for that.. On the surface they are quite simple, but the more you delve into them, the more you find. But I've never really taken the time to look at Fruity loops, because it always looked a bit too "userfriendly" for me. Userfriendly = Less user control (IMHO - just look where Windows is going.)

We all have our 'pet' programs but I think different people work better with different tools. Dumlovesyou - you should experiment with all these programs till you find the one that's right for you. No one here can tell you which one that is.

Be prepared to invest a lot of time in this if you want to do it well- making good music is not something that comes over night, even with all the right tools at your fingertips. Stick at it, and try to learn something new from every tune you write. You'll find, almost invariably, that every tune you make will get better and better!

Thanks for your answers.(also for the tip with, kazza..)Though I have been downloading the 5.1 version of Cubase. Is there any diffrences between the 5.1 and SX? I really apreciate your replys. I will download all I think. It must be pretty hard to start doing it. I kind of imagine.(I skate, so I know how much you have to practice and improve yourself ). See you! I hope I'll upload a track soon.

I donno really, I don't care for Acid much, and I've been hearing a lot about fruityloops thow. I personally go a different direction so I can't give too much advise I suppose.
