Your tax return will be delayed.  Public parks and museums will be closed.

Ultimately, depending on who "wins" some social programs may be cut (things like planned parenthood, etc.).  If you're a federal worker, you may (or may not) get paid.

well it affects some people drastically i would think, like military. the article has examples, but personally i think it might make people look at how it happened and realize the horrible state of the world economy and the falling of america as the world's superpower.

make way for the century of china.

It's really not a big deal, it's happened before. They just shut  down "non-essential" government things like parks, beaches and all that jazz.

Of course, the congressmen will still get paid even though it is their stubbornness that will make all the "nonessential" workers get furloughed.

so will our troops, "americas protection" become weak or drop in numbers due to this?

i have a lot of friends who joined the military only for the money and the stability. take that from them and they have no reason to stay. its not unheard of for people to become MIA. its not like our broke ass gov is going to spend money to find these MIA's anyway.

dunno, thats what i think.

Sure, they have to. It's their only option.
Congress failing to pass a budget is like a woman withholding sex.
It gets some attention but isn't a viable long-term approach to managing a situation.

Government isn't a problem, it can't be.
Because government isn't a thing, it's a concept.

Your problem is with the voters. Which is to say, with yourself.
Sorry if that sounds unpleasant but it's the simple truth.

Want things changed? Go vote. We did here in Colorado, and it can happen nationwide.
MMJ or a sensible budget, the answer is the same. Vote.

lol u might make a small change at the local level but nothing has changed on the federal, infact while everyone has been focusing on "medical" mj a shitstorm of stuff has become illegal.  Voting just does not work for our big buisness, i mean big government.

government is physical not imaginary, and it can't be slain by simple men of which we have none in the first place, all we have is a generation of what were men, turned halfway into girls

Change happens at the national level because of voting quite frequently.
Prohibition. The repeal thereof. Civil rights. Civil unions (soon). Right to life, right to death, right to privacy.
Wars started, wars ended, wars perpetuated. National credibility and world standing.

All of these have been changed, modified, most would say improved, by the votes of the citizens.

You are simply wrong if you think voting doesn't matter.
Please, go vote.

Yeah, I didn't hear the people have a say in the recent "temporary" banning of synthetic cannabinoids (JWH, etc).
With MMJ, the Fed has even said they were going to not waste resources going after people who were within the state's laws,
but they still go bustin down doors in California.

Even the Federal Government cannot stop The Government.

Oh? Didn't we elect the person who appointed the FDA chief that did that scheduling?
Couldn't we elect somebody with something better to do than that? Ron Paul maybe, not that I necessarily want him elected.

(Side note- I agree that the JWHs are probably bad, and if banning was any use I'd want them banned. But that's irrelevant to the topic under discussion.)

Reversal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, a move made reluctantly by the military.
Why did they give in? Elected civil officials ordered them to, expressing the will of the voters.

National policy changed by voting. Not just in your lifetime, but recently.

what wars did the people start and what wars did the people end?  nobody wants to police the world, thats the government, nobody wants to be a trillion dollars in debt, thats the government. privacy...what privacy?  what i see is a living and breathing machine doing what makes corperations happy, not what makes us little ants happy.  you get mj legal yet your stores keep getting shut down, you've changed nothing, your vote meant nothing other than to blind you while they pulled tricks behind your back, believing that voting makes change happen is exactly what they want, because it keeps you voting like a gambler at a casino pulling the slot machine, you keep playing...

Lincoln, FDR and others elected because of wars they led or advocated.
Grant obviously, and many other veterans were elected based on past military performance and the promise of future military action.
(Consider McCain vs big O from that aspect)
The peace movement of the Sixties, led by people like you, helped end the Vietnam War and without doubt ended the draft.

As for privacy, HIPAA is federal law and yes, it protects you.
There's a lot of other federal laws that protect you. Know why local PD can't get an easy wiretap?
Yep, federal law. Put in place because of votes.

I can go on and on, but I won't.
If you aren't convinced by now, I guess you're some kind of reverse sheeple.
A mopey eeyore kind of sheeple. Sad for no reason other than the shadow cast by your own sadness.

but for a recent comparision, when obama and co ran for pres, they for the most part were spitting the same old line, thats why its always people voting for the lesser of 2 evils, u call it the "people" voting them in, while im saying all the people did was 'vote' while nothing changed.  regardless were talking about "this" government not the one from decades ago, were talking about your vote not meaning nothing today.

and as we all know, nomatter what a person says before office, everything changes after they get there

its the people in power who make the choices, and they always will and they control who gets elected not u.

as for hipaa that crap really doesn't do much anyway, its mainly just to stop snoopy family members and maybe reporters which really does alot more for the hospital than it does for the patient, and at the end of the day every nurse and doctor on the floor is going to know all the funny details of your visit.you say HIPAA i say patriot act,us mail being 'damaged', camera's,google maps, gps, onstar, rfids, google cacheing, google ads/data gathering, power useage, corperations controlling our world and using disclaimers to steal all the privacy right back, be honest we both know u can name privacy acts but we also both know we have shit for privacy, to dispute such things on these boards is a bit pointless.  You look 'suspicious' and you don't have any privacy simple as that.
and even if u don't look suspicious were all under 24/7 data mining to find those who are, we have next to zero privacy with every aspect of our lives being analyzed.  the fact that u think we do have privacy means you been eating a bit to much of the sheep pie.

look im not saying people can't put issues on the table, what im saying is when it comes to an issue the gov cares about aka a issue a corperation cares about, your not changing anything.  theres a direction the gov is heading and your not going to sway it when its mind is made up, so aka in relation to your mj movement not changing, your vote means squat.
