what the heck is consolidation?
    #14258735 - 04/08/11 02:05 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So Im reading everywhere that I need to let my jars consolidate for a week after they're 100% colonized... but no one has explained what this process is! Sorry for asking such a newbie question, Ive been searching on the site for almost an hour for the definition, its not anywhere! Thanks so much guys for your help!

It just means to let the mycellium continue to colonize the inside of the cake.

RogerRabbit said:Consolidation is the part of the process where the mycelium has finished 'colonizing' the substrate, but has not had had time to digest enough of the food to be able to fruit readily.  This is the reason for leaving brf in the jars for a week past full colonization.  If you birth right away at full colonization, they won't fruit for a week anyway, so may as well leave them in the jars during that time so they're not drying out.

You are basically giving the mycelium time to break down the food and sugars whilst still inside of the jar. You will see a better first and second flush practicing this.

If you don't the cake will pretty much sit there doing nothing for the first week neway, while losing is moisture.

If you birth even earlier b4 the brf is all captured, you get stroma.

The myc also "establish" it's "network" in order to build something like "transport-ways" or just a structure that make "sense", before it fruits.
In that time, it also digest the substrate (what ever it is) and store the nutrition's for the fruits/flush.
Consolidation.

Correct me if im wrong.
