I don't know about that. I want to see figures! At one point everquest economy for RL money for ingame items and currency.. gross worth was more than the country of Russia in a year. I myself used to profit off WoW, played 'professionally' and was sponsored and ended up selling my toon for 5k. would hardly call that the best game ever though, fuck WoW. I could never really get into Halo or CoD or any of those games..

Best game ever.....hmmmmm, first I gotta define what "best" is, because theres different things I like about different games. But I guess if I had to narrow it down to games that provided the most overall entertainment for me I'd have to go with the ones I spent the most time playing and never got bored of them. Using that criteria it would have to be a toss up between these games (in no particular order): Oblivion GTA: San Andreas Resistance: Fall of Man
But there are too many awesome games in the world to really call one of these "the best". I just spent a lot of time playing them. I want different things all the time depending on my mood and I play a wide variety of games on a regular basis.

Hands down. Not even a contest if you were a part of that game in the earlier years (maybe years 1-3) you were part of something special. Would give anything to go back to that game and that time.

Yep.. I started about 2 weeks after release. I was bored and wandering around CompUSA and decided it looked interesting. Every MMORPG since that time I've been disappointed that it didn't suck me in and make me feel like a part of something like EQ1 did back then.

Speaking of EQ1 'back then'.. anyone remember UO in the very very early days? Just as epic IMO.

Yea, I try to explain this to people in my WoW guild and they're just like...huh? They want to know how it was better when it didn't have instancing and the combat wasn't as advanced. I try to explain it but it was just something about that game that felt like I had become my character and I was living in a new world. WoW and no other mmo ever did that to me. Just things like not having little "!" above quest givers and having to go out and find the quest giver and saying the right phrases in sequence/etc. Or how the players set up trading outposts in the ec tunnels. Plus it was hard to get across the world and if you died it really meant something and was hard to recover from.

It's really hard to choose a favourite, my games are my friends! But I guess... Dungeon Keeper is one of the most outstanding. Runner up would have to be Resident Evil 1-3 as well as 0.

X-COM games back from the days of the 486 computer: UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka X-COM: UFO Defense) and X-COM: Terror from the Deep
I'm annoyed that no software company can make a brilliant turn-based strategy game like these two games on a modern gaming system. These two games were like a giant game of chess that actually made you think and plan ahead; I used to play these games with a notepad beside me to help me track my plans, strategies, and help with the management of the game.
There are nearly no turn-based strategies on modern gaming systems anymore; the only "ok" turn based strategy on the Xbox 360 is Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution.
From the Wikipedia article, Quote:
In 2010 2K Marin announced the official reboot of the series, entitled simply XCOM
I got excited for a few minutes, until I found out that it was going to be a First-Person shooter?!?!! Seriously?!??? Everyone who remembers X-Com remembers it for being a great turn-based strategy game, not a first-person shooter. 2K Marin already have everything to make a great turn-based strategy for a modern gaming system, yet instead they make yet-another first-person shooter!

If you're talking about the remake of the first game I agree somewhat. I got kind of pissed off at all the new stuff they added though as the box stated "100% original" or something like that, meaning that this was the original first game with updated graphics and voice acting. Still, good game but.. yeah, too much weird stuff

oh yeah...resident evil. i liked zero for the gamecube a lot, and i played code veronica on dreamcast for days. never really got into the originals though, and the new ones just don't have the same atmosphere. 4 was okay (nice revamped combat system, still maintained the horror element) but 5 was garbage IMO.

Weeell, for one they added mr whatshisface from the grave as well as that stupid trollish boss that sounds like he/she got his/her dick stuck somewhere. Oh, and those zombies that wake up after awhile incase you burn them, that was kind of annoying. I did like that way you could stab the zombies in the face though

I almost cry when I realised they were going to scrap the whole RE4 when it was almost done and remake it with crazy mexicans (kinda racist dramatization) instead of zombies. I still have a magazine from 2003 with pictures of beatiful spiders and zombies with 2-4 pages talking about how awesome Resident Evil 4 was gonna be. And then.. they killed Umbrella. That's when the series died for me.
Edit: I don't know how I managed to get the entire message into a quote. Not exactly sober here. SRY

I feel exactly the same. I downloaded and played enemy unknown a few months ago using dosbox and it was so much fun still to this day. Such deep strategy involved and the combination of the overworld planet view/base-building/interceptor dogfighting/turned-based ground missions was amazing and gave almost infinite replay value.
As for the FPS reboot ...it really makes me sad. I have no idea why they aren't trying to improve upon the original with updated graphics, deeper gameplay, etc.
Have you tried the other "UFO" games like afterlife/aftermath? They aren't too bad if you just want some turn-based strategy and light base-building back in your life. They also made a nearly 1:1 copy of enemy unknown with updated graphics with a few minor changes.
