Odor from fruiting chamber (and pin porn!)

Hey guys,
I have lots of cakes in my chamber. Some have been in for two weeks, some have been in for a week, and I just birthed more two days ago and am about to place 5 more cakes in today. The cakes that have fruited early did very well (producing ~25g fruits).
When fanning all of this time, a nice humid fresh-mushroom smell would always flow out of the chamber. Having fanned 5-6 times a day for 2 weeks straight, I grew accustomed to this smell. However, today when I opened the chamber to fan it, an different odor greeted me. I can't pinpoint exactly what it smells like, but it's very 'chemically' (I haven't used any chemicals for my perlite, chamber, or cakes).
While inspecting the cakes, I went ahead and took a sniff of each one. Most of the oldest ones smell this way, and some of the cakes that have been present for 1 week smell this way (it's not the same fresh-mushroom smell). The new cakes have no odor, but this may be because the verm layer is still so thick.
The cakes are just starting to pin (pics below!). Does the pinning stage emit a different odor? Do the cakes just lose their fresh mushroom smell after sitting in the chamber for so long? Should I be looking for some signs of contamination? All of the cakes look perfectly healthy to me. Any advice would help. I've searched the forums to no avail.

The cakes look fine, so my best guess is that you've got something growing in your perlite. The smell could have just stuck to the outside of your cakes.
See if your perlite smells too. Mildew grows on just about anything that's wet, and smells very chemically.
But the cakes look fine to me.

I have absolutely no solution for you, but I have read somewhere that smelling them, especially when you might suspect a contamination, can be dangerous for your health!
Id definately wait for an experienced answer

See if your perlite smells too.
But the cakes look fine to me.
I guess I should have added that I also smelled the perlite. It has no odor and seems normal. It's just those older cakes that have this smell (which consumes the air in the whole tub until I fan).

Haha, I guess it would have been intelligent of me to not go sniffing them, but I was worried!

they look pretty good...you're sure this is not the normal smell of the cakes? It can be pretty strong. . . there's no discoloration anywhere?
a small amount of HP in the bottom of an FC, just a capfull or two with the bulk of the water, seems to help with mildew issues

^ It's definitely different than the normal smell of cakes.
One of the cakes (that I just harvest a huge fruit from) has two small mushroom with bases of the stem that are very bruised. It's to the point where they are almost black. They have also stopped growing.. but this area doesn't smell as strong as the older cakes do, so I'd say that wasn't the problem. Other than that, there isn't any discolouration on any cakes.

Are the cakes overly wet? Like, to the point that water is dripping or pooling? Because that can definitely cause the mushrooms to bruise and eventually rot (black).
That "chemical" odor might be from fermentation or bacteria, especially if the cakes are really, really wet and warm. The cakes in the above pics look good though. Keep an eye on 'em for the time being and maybe wait for others to chime in with advice.

Not at all. I had this problem for like my first two days of misting (as I was going at it too heavily) but I quickly learned to ease up. The mushrooms smelled fantastic from then on.
The cakes sit at about 65-75*F (never over, and rarely under). I mist 3 times a day and fan 7.
The cakes in the pics above are the cakes that smell the strongest of this unknown odor. I really hope it's not bacteria of some sort. I'll just hold out until someone suggest an action to take to test what the smell is. I'll keep this thread updated if anything starts to look goofy.
Thanks for your input, Boozie!

Well, it's always good to hear that they look fine.
The picture was taken just before misting/fanning; but maybe I will mist once more throughout the day.
Thanks!

Very well, in fact.
The odors have subsided and the fruits are... glorious!
