How did you check to see your water was gone after 45 minutes?  Sumptin is fishy.

After it stops rocking, without any steam, and you smell an off odor, I find it's a good idea to check it out :rolleyes: sure enough. Bone dry. I fixed the problem for the other loads. More rings. More water.

Agar to grain is essentially the same game, transferring live tissue to a jar. As long as you don't have to inoculate via syringe, you don't REALLY need a filter of any kind other than the inverted lid method. Simplest and cheapest method, because there are no other purchases necessary...
