Anyone watch Top Gear? It's about the only thing I 'do' with cars these days (apart from occasionally discussing the developments in the automotive industry with colleague researchers), but it's a fucking great show if you ask me.

Other than that, my car died on me last October, and I haven't replaced it. I had been keeping it running for about three years prior to it breaking down again, and I was sick and tired of having to replace the head gasket (again) and whatever else had detonated itself in the coolant circuit (the heater matrix to name an annoying detail).

Yea man top gear is one of the best shows out there, its not without flaws though, Jeremey is a absolute whore for anything British and Ferrari's. That finale that they just had was amazing though, the 959 and the F-40, like straight up cargazam, that F-40 has got to be the greatest thing ever made, and to think that i'd never even heard that thing until they put in on air.

And if you want to mention some of the other shit they've done, like the one where they drive to the north pole, or the south Africa one, or anybody remember the Vietnam episode? Some of the most inspiring television I've ever seen

The Vietnam episode was absolutely phenomenal; personally, I think it's the apogee of the series. Which is remarkable, as it doesn't actually involve cars  But yeah, those guys are totally biased. It's alright though; they're aware of that and make fun of it themselves. The assessments made in the show are obviously not intended to be taken seriously, although I bet many people think they are.

My little 383 in a 88 Suburban (I know pick a heavier vehicle eh! lol), got it dynoed 450lb/ft of torque and 430 horse(410ft/lbs @ 2000rpm LOL), but that was before I had the engine rebuilt since a head gasket failed and there was coolant in the oil, looking back at it the torque wrench I used was garbage and obviously caused some problems. Anyways the guy I had rebuild it, some well known local alcohol drag racer/engine builder recommended a wilder cam and I ended up going from something fairly mild to the 3'rd hottest grind in the comp camps street/strip section. Im still working with it, getting it to idle is a bitch and a half, but once you get into it its hillarious, the intake noise on this thing is absolutely demonic.

Just pulled the engine and tranny actually to fix a few leaks, painted everything and had the tranny shop play with the valve body to soften up the shifts, even with a posi it was chirping the tires 1st to second fairly often. This things on its 4th tranny actually and 2nd diff(now a fully built 700R4 and  a auburn posi), and one engine rebild that has gotten completely out of hand, spent enough money on it to have a down payment on a house but its been my ride since I was 16. I got my drivers the day after I was old enough and since I was the only one with a vehicle that early in highschool my group spent a lot of time partying in that truck, and my family took that truck on countless road trips with our trailer, I drove that thing across 3 provinces with my learners licence, actually I basicly chaufered my parents around after that.

One day it will be a show car though, if I have my way, and having done body work for a while and working in a transmission/hot rod shop I've got a chance of pulling it off, now all I need is another $20,000

Here's a resto I am doing on a Hq Kingswood, Its an aussie car made by holden... GM's aussie branch.

I picked up a cheap sandblaster to get rid of some rust, it works ok but i need to start cutting it out when i got the time. I want to treat it with some killrust i think it is. It removes the oxygen between the metal and the spray... hopefully it works. I doubt the car will last much longer. All the rust was cut out of it 15 years ago and it has returned, when it returns i will go all out and make a burnout car out of it.

It has a 202 straight 6 in it, has extractors and a little bit done to it. It is only a 3.3 litre but she goes alright, My dad got rid of the 4 speed stock tranny in it and replaced it with an old celica 5 spd 15 years ago. I will be putting in a toyota soarer tranny in it soon.

Sorry bout the shitty pics, comp got wiped and had to grab em off facebook.

*edit* Also the green car is a 1928 Model "A" ford that my dad owns, he restored it from pretty much a scrap heap years ago. I can't wait to get it, Gonna use that on my wedding day if i'm ever stupid enough to get married.

So I just found out a few months ago our library has a new service. If you have a library card you can access all of the Chiltons auto repair info from your own home computer using your library card number. Your local county library should have their own link for it on their page.

Also if you are in a pinch and don't have a card try this one out:
Michagan eLibrary  Now enter One letter and any 12 numbers after and login.
Example: b135790245784

Happy wrenching.

That will get you into the chiltons manuals.

I wanted a big block in a small package, it's an olds DRCE tall deck block
with mechart 6.125" forged rods, they were about 300 grams lighter than
any other forged rod of that length, in conjunction with the wiseco
'ludicrous lightness' pistons the engine wound up as fast as an F1 car, I
had a blue racer cam (before they were bought by crane), they worked with
me to get shit together, went through about 20 different grinds before I
got it dialed in where I wanted it. luckily the rods/pistons were not that
much lighter than stock so knife edging the crank was enough to balance
it, the tall deck and thick walls allowed me to get 500ci out of a small
block. the fucker put out 1150hp and 1200+lbs of torque, naturally
aspirated with no bottle and still streetable

get phosphoric acid, buy from what ever store sells concrete etching
solutions, the acid converts the iron oxide to iron phosphate which is
stable and wont corrode, some stores here sell it as various rust
converters like Ospho, half gallon of the converter which is a little
stronger than the rust converter products runs around $20 while a quart
of rust converter costs about the same

also, get small nozzle tips for your vacuum and some rubber hose that
fits it to get all that sand out from blasting, the shit's a bitch
when it shows up in the fresh paint

I've got a 51 Ford F1 Panel Truck I have to get started on, a few small
dents, a lot of surface rust but nothing rusted through, still has the
original flathead V8 and it's almost complete, it's the best candidate I've
ever found for a restoration

should look about like this when I'm done, I just have to find a good source for body lead and tallow
