Eating the outer skin on cacti?

Are there any alkaloids in the outer skin on cacti? I have read that the flesh just under the skin is rich, but I am curious about the skin itself. Is it edible?

it is the shared opinion that it does not contain anything worth ingesting it for. many say that it induces nausea as well.

why bother?
we already know the cactus works just fine without the skin.
any benefit it could possible provide is not worth it to begin with given that its total mass is so minute compared to the flesh.
what i would be interested in hearing is if you de-skinned the cuttings you have and ate the green flesh like corn off a cob. it seems like it would not be as revolting as a tea, for example.

This is exactly what I plan to do. I just didn't know if it was worth it to eat the skin. It seems not, so I will stick to the goodies in the flesh.

The cactus skins bad .
But if you don't remove it before making the tea it really doesn't change anything. I just wouldn't eat it.

I never deskin cactus and never have nausea problems. The problem with deskinning is that it is tedious and you often wind up accidentally peeling away the alkaloid rich flesh just beneath the skin.
-------------------- Don't PM me with bullshit. I don't sell or trade cactus and I don't know where you can get any, other than your mother's ass.

I have tried eating the cactus after peeling the skin and I wouldn't recommend it. It tastes so horrible and takes much longer to consume than drinking the tea. I was planning to eat 2 ft but could only get 1 down it was almost impossible. I did notice it to be more potent that way probably because the heat breaks down the alkaloids a little when you boil it.
I usually just blend the skin and all then boil down and strain.
