Bad things like this will happen in war. That means that soldiers will be in bad situations and do bad things.

So, you should put the blame on the leaders who sent the soldiers over there. Now while questioning the leaders, ask yourself, Why did the TV tell me we were going to war to get Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Now the TV is telling me "well we are just there to save the people of Iraq".

Seriously, I am glad you are outraged. I salute you, seriously. I hope and pray that more Americans will wake the muthafuck up!! Stop waving your plastic American flags made in China, and realize that your country is being destroyed by the corrupt administrations.

I would also say get mad at the people that follow the mainstream media, and think they know what is going on and have watched so much American Idol thier brains have ceased to function.

Look up the Patriot act, look up the Patriot act 2, your govt. is trying to use this war NOT, I repeat NOT to protect your freedoms, but to destroy them.

Hey here is something you can think about, why are the UN and the USA talking about placing the Iraq oil into a "trust"? Did you know that we are going to take all the Iraq oil, and then sell it back to the Iraq people with intrest. Oh and not to mention that we are going to take some money out for war costs, and rebuild costs. I mean come on.

I dont understand why there is even any talk about this left vs. right wing nonsense. People get out of the old systems of thought. As shroomers I would expect this would be easier for us to do.

The whole left vs. right is just a sham. They are really just two arms of the same evil. Sure there may be issues you know here and there for both sides and what not. But the big picture is that America is being destroyed by design. If you just read the Patriot Act 2 you will see this quickly.

Really there are just so many things that people are falling for which will give the govt. too much power and America as we know it will be gone.

I mean why is it that not one media station has reported on the fact that congress has not even offically declared war yet? I mean that is a part of the United States Constitution. This fact is not a right wing or a left wing issue, it shakes the very foundation of what everything this country is based on, and what those soldiers think they are fighting for.

And no I will not post links to the Constitution or to the Patriot act 2, look it up foryourself, that is the only way you will learn anything. It is very simple just do a search for either. Look at some of the things the police are being trained to do. DO NOT give up your rights.

See, that's what Im talking about. Anyone with a belief that the mainstream media is news... well, that's just crazy talk. Im not saying every underground conspiracy theory is truth either... but people, use common sense before refuting a news source as "liberal". I saw someone call the guardian a left leaning liberal publication the other day... wha?

In addition, Hagel and others have noted that there will be other demands on Iraq's oil money.

Iraq has an estimated $172 billion of unsettled reparations stemming from the first Gulf War. In addition, the country has an estimated $62 to $130 billion in debts to private banks and foreign governments across the globe."

I mean really, when are the iraqi people going to see any of this money, especially if the US gets the ability to run the "reconstruction". Maybe it will go just as well as the afghanistan "reconstruction", which was basically a redecorating job with missles and military.

The Patriot Acts are indeed an abomination. If you dont believe in fighting for peace then atleast fight for your freedoms.... people are going to have to start getting involved in something or this nation is in for a world of shit.

How many more lives would have been lost in a conventional invasion?
Better to be the first to drop then the second. In other words, if it wasn't us it would have been someone else. Of that I have no doubt.

When PH happened we were basically in an isolationist phase were we not? This may lead back to the previous discussion about whether Hitler would have represented a threat to the US had we not entered the war and he ruled the east. If we did have pre-knowledge, allowing PH may have been the only way to rally the nation against what the administration perceived as an iminent threat. Better to go in early and make sure Hitler could not be a threat that to be wrong and wait for him to win, rebuild, and continue with his conquest.

You know, if Hitler had not gone after the Jews he could have ruled the world. Einstein would have stayed in Germany and Hitler would have had the bomb instead of us. Once he had that he undoubtedly could have taken the western hemisphere as well.

Point is some young dumb and full of cum soldiers killed a whole innocent family whilst attacking there country,try all you like to justify this but imo this is why wars should not be fought,unless as an act of self protection not out right colonialist aggression.

This is the relevant point to this entire thread -- the fundamental principle underlying the incident under discussion.

Would those soldiers at that checkpoint have acted as they did had there not been a previous incident of other soldiers at a checkpoint being killed by a car bomb (whose driver also reportedly waved at the troops, remember) just days before? Nope.

Despite the inherent uncivilized nature of war, there are universally-recognized rules of conduct during wartime (the Geneva Convention being just one of the more recent) that have developed over the millennia for a reason. Not surprisingly, almost all of those rules are aimed at reducing the impact of war on non-combatants; i.e. clear identification of combatants through the use of uniforms and/or insignia, prohibitions against attacking hospitals and ambulances, prohibition against false surrender tactics, prohibitions against "human shields", humane treatment of POWs, and more.

When one side disregards these conventions and chooses to use the "loopholes" for military gain, it trades a short-term, onetime gain for longterm risk to their civilian population. This was amply demonstrated over and over in Viet Nam.

If one cannot be reasonably sure that the guy who seems to be surrendering really means it, one tends to be quicker on the trigger than otherwise. When one cannot be sure whether the next car that refuses to stop is driven by a confused refugee or a suicide bomber, one tends (understandably) to err on the side of self-defense.

Who is ultimately responsible for these incidents (of which there will certainly be more), an overly-nervous nineteen year old grunt at a roadblock, or the commander who incited one of his troops to turn himself into the driver of a car-bomb?

A postscript:

There are reports today of another car bomber using a pregnant woman to entice coalition soldiers close enough to his car to kill them when he detonated it. Clearly there is no way of knowing whether the woman volunteered to accompany him or was coerced into it.

As I said before -- a very small short term gain for the ruling regime has been once again traded for longterm pain for non-combatants. Three dead invaders, but how many refugees trying to flee the fighting will now be placed at risk? Will the next incident be carried out with an ambulance? A food truck? How long do you think it will be before ALL non-military vehicular traffic in Iraq will be prohibited? And, in the interests of impartiality, will Al Jazeera add footage of this woman's shattered body (perhaps with her unborn child even visible through the torn viscera) to their parade of images of civilian casualties?

News report say she exited the car shortly before it exploded and was screaming and yelling as if scared.
