The only one of those places id even consider living is San Diego and Id much rather live in Portland OR Boulder than any of those....of course there are others places Id rather live than Portland or Boulder.
Places Id rather live: Eugene, Bend, Steamboat Springs, Nederland, Ithaca, Asheville and Ashland.

I wholeheartedly agree! San Diego was the only place where I was like, "That could be nice."
Now I'm going to ask you... Where?

Good choices. They all seem very remote though if you need to find a specific kind of job.

It depends on the specific kind of job...you cant even get a specific kind of job in every city let alone town.
If you're self employed or doing something basic (manual labor, bartender, cook, construction, warehouse, farm hand, sales, networking, computer repair) you can find a job ANYWHERE.

I'm biased because I have friends and family there but Boulder is a cool town.

Boulder is good if you're a guy because it has just about the highest ratio of females to males of anywhere in the States.

I would have to say Portland over Boulder. I've visited Boulder a few times and it seems to have an enormous yuppie population. The white collar mountain biking dads and yoga practicing soccer mom types. Boulder is beautiful though, and there are certainly good drugs/people there. Since this January I've been living in Portland. I originally moved to western Oregon from eastern Iowa a few years back and it was awesome moving to the ocean and mountains. Portland is pretty diverse. There are a ton of hipsters/scenesters but a pretty healthy group of hippies/ravers/metalheads/punks too. The weather is mild during the winter but pretty damn rainy. Always ends up making me wish for snow because you don't instantly get soaked from it. I appreciate how everything stays green in winter though, I'm used to nothing but grey as far as the eye can see. Summertime is warm and dry, it never gets very humid and rarely rains until the fall. Portland has a ton of parks and green spaces, the riverfront is especially pretty for a downtown area. Also, Portland is only an hour and a bit from the ocean. All sorts of musical groups pass through Portland too, from classical to death metal. I really can't look at the weekly concert lists unless I want to feel bad because I can't afford to go to every show.

Boulder is full of pretend-hippie college-kids, mostly female.
Portland is full of junkies and tweakers.
That being said I still prefer Portland. I find Portland to be more beautiful but I prefer mossy forests to rocks.

Fixed. But ya, Oregon on a whole has a ton of tweakers and junkies. Moss does indeed rule though.

Yeah there are a lot of those, but I used to live in California where it was eve worse. So, it's a step up for me.

I never understood why Medford appears on more maps than more populated and major cities like Eugene, Salem and Portland.
