It should be used for fragging noobs. and your high def porn as you call it. Some of these guys have to get special higher amperage circuits put in their house because they are pulling so much power
I have a nice computer with dual video cards and would like to participate... When I tried it a couple years ago, I think it was on windows XP-64. I am now using windows 7-64. I dont remember what happened when I tried it, but it made me nervous!!! I think it made my computer freeze, but its been so long I dont remember.
If I leave this program on along with my computer, how much higher will my electric bill be?

Depends, what video cards? In general, it's going to be higher. 24/7 folding on high GPU load will push graphics cards harder than some of the most intense 3d games

All my fans work like a charm, and the fans on the memory and video cards work, but I still get hot and have to pull the side cover off and point a box fan at it.
Oh yeah and my mac address or some shit is permabanned because I used to fight with some guys that got caught botting so I was guilty by association from punkbuster.
They must not of seen my stats, I rack up purple hearts like its nobody's business.
Now I have to learn to hack shit or buy a new mobo. ghey.

right now we are currently one of the best contributors to Stanford's protein folding program. However, I have noticed many users who do not participate in this positive program
For more information on folding and the benefits, click the link provided
We are currently ranked 143rd of just under 200,000 teams. With your help we can become one of the top 100 teams. And it is all for a good cause.
I will be giving +5 shroom ratings for each member who becomes a member of folding@home and link their results to their profile. I was going to wait until 4/20 to make this post but I think it is important that we get as many people involved as we can. It generally takes 1-2 days to get results reflected to your profile, but remember your contributions are going to help science and to help find cures for many diseases.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.

i wasnt sure what this "folding" was... i clicked the site and read this:
Quote:
Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world.
reminds me of "the moon is a harsh mistress" where the super computer got so many connections that it became sentient.
what exactly is folding? i'm sort of mixed up.
i have no problem downloading a program.. but first
i would like to know the pro's and con's to running it in the background?
would i need to leave my computer on all the time? would it slow my computer down?
any other information would be appreciated

I would but my computer can barely even browse the web. It takes minutes for pages to load. I get popups about not having sufficient memory to perform operations. My graphics card wont even let me play Sim City 4.
