    #14252865 - 04/07/11 12:27 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

So im working with agar for the first ti me i have multispore nonissolated mycelium grow on agar and i used that mycelium to inoculate rye my question is, If mycelium was growing from just one point and fruits grow when 2 different sex mycelium connect doesn't that mean that i have only 1 sex mycelium and i wont be able to get fruits?

This might be retarded question but i needed to be sure.

Chances are, of the thousands of spores involved in your multispore inoculation, two of the hyphae met and became dikaryotic.

When a spore germinates it sends out a hyphae (which is like a root from a seed) and all it takes are two of these tiny microscopic hyphae with compatible mating types to meet to make it dikaryotic (a true strain) which may fruit if it's genetics are right.

You should be fine, monokaryotic mycelium is very wispy and slow growing.
