Monotub: To bag or not to bag?
    #14252837 - 04/07/11 12:22 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I'm doing a 66qt monotub and just asking for your opinions.  What are the advantages to placing the substrate in a trash bag at the bottom of the tub?

Either way I plan to duct tape the bottom four inches so light only hits the fruiting surface.

the reason for using a trash liner is when the substrate shrinks away from the side the bag goes with it, keeping it from side/bottom pinning

as well tis alot simpler and easier to remove the substrate to discard with the liner

as well I like it because moisture builds on your lid/sides and when it runs down the side its protecting my substrate from sitting in stagnent old water..

To b honest i prefer without bag. Its a lot of trouble. My bigger shrooms come from side pins. And when the substrate shrinks the water will run down the side and be re-absorbed. This is only my experience though. I've done it both ways.
