Hi mushroom and rare botanical lovers,
I'm starting this thread to talk about all things saffron (crocus sativus). It has long been my dream to cultivate this plant as well as share various recipes with saffron enthusiasts.
So if you read this, please post about:
- How to grow saffron and get various saffron seeds
- How to use saffron healthfully, as an aphrodisiac, and for altering consciousness
- what your experiences and recipes have been like
-------------------- This is a park from my old days sporing.
Check out my trade thread, I am so excited to grow some skinny species, and TRUFFLES!! I'm also interested in Edible species like oysters (all types) and Agaricus (all types)

I recently started using saffron in our raw chocolate recipes at home and eating them daily. I've felt an increase in libido and that's about it. I also have damiana in the chocolates which could contribute to the libido increase factor.

yeah, I saw saffron mentioned in my Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants. I remember trying it once as a teen and not getting much results. I just did a cold water tea though, so idk. Maybe if i had tried more than once i could've gotten somewhere. I believe my dose was about 4 grams, I'm unsure though as this experiment took place over 5 years ago

I am from Iran where Saffron been for long haul cultivated and consumed. In Iran, there's a saying "if you eat enough Saffron, you'll die laughing your ass off"
I personally have had used Saffron up to 200-300 mg daily for its definite mood elevating effects and quite enjoyed it.
Actually such very low doses has been recommended in Iranian traditional medicine to eliminate grief and depression.
Saffron is indeed an aphrodisiac, I think because it makes you feel charming, you'd love to go for stuffs

It sure is Psychoactive as it effects on both Serotonin and dopamine. I personally haven't used such amount to get high on Saffron, it becomes very stimulating if I dose up more and I usually avoid stimulants, but it was said by others that the quality of Saffron highly matters if you wanna feel its effects.
There are threads on other forums about Saffron use as a recreational drug, I recommend you here http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9578
