pups , new growth has old patchy skin ... new scab pics !
    #14251266 - 04/07/11 02:18 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

hello shroomers , i have yet another strange subject for more experienced growers of cacti . i have a tall cactus that has a skin problem . it looks unhealthy  and half dead , yet when i cut it back , it grew 2 top pups that have perfect skin .
ive since cut the top again and now have 4 new pups , 2 at base + 2 at top ... problem is the new pups have patchy , old looking skin .  is there something i can do to improve this situation ?  its also happening to another new pup from another cactus .these pix are a month old when the pups were only showing small areas of skin damage .i thought this might be fairly common . it looks like "normal" skin "damage" or imperfections you might expect from the older main tip they are from.  thanks  .

Thanks for adding pics.

It's still hard to tell what's wrong as the pictures you've posted are a month old and they appear to be fine in those, if you could supply some recent pictures that would be great.. If they still look like this then they're fine.

If they're getting those blotches like the main cutting has then it could be an insect problem or something else. Only other thing that comes to mind is, are they getting yellow spots on them? This can happen but they soon disappear.

The skin problem on your tall pachanoi is only cosmetic and wont affect how the cactus grows. The new growth, as you've discovered, will be nice and green without imperfections.......until it is attacked by something.

I really don't know what's wrong with them or if in fact their is a problem to begin with. These cacti are hardy bastards and they should be fine.
