i had an ebt card (food stamps) while i was traveling, also hit up a lot of feeds - food not bombs, local churches, food banks, also dumpsters. not proud of being a bum, but i was young at the time. now going to school so i can at least trade a service.
in my experience, no, you won't meet a lot of junkie traveling kids. most everybody who is a traveling psychedelic user is chill.

I am not much of a reader. And when I do read, I read instruction manuals. Like survival guides. I am weird.
I am hoping to change that. I am taking a Ghandi book with me, as well as War and Peace, and a poetry book. Got a nice size pack, I am most woried about how I am going to carry my tent and sleeping bag. Thinking of trading the sleeping bag for a sleeping mat. Weather should be pretty damn warm, even at night.

psycho- I will have several hundred at my dispense. And I am a well seasoned backpacker, enough to research what game and fish will be in season. I will be just fine. Plus I can go a week without eating. I plan on doing lots of meditation and reading along my journey
Sounds good man. Just dont be one of those pussy backpackers from LA that go to the Appalachia mountains for a soul searching journey and have rich friends drop food from a helicopter every few hundred miles.
Them wannabe survivalist fags crack me up.

Nah, I am from Arizona. Spent weeks backpacking in tonto national forest and just never been to Cali before, so I figured I would check it out and see what all the hype is about.
I am just hoping it wont be tooo hard to get medical bud while I am there.
I am still open to suggestions although I sort of have it narrowed down to either Isabella Lake or a better option Santa Barbara which is like an hour north of LA but surrounded by mountains. Hell I might end up growing bud and never leave.

It might be quicker and easier to grow your own good weed while out on the trial. Plant a few seeds, read a book while plucking bugs from your dearest ones, it will be all over before ya know it. Plan on walking out with a backpack full of something amazing.

You dont really need anything specific to cali. Just getting water and food in general is good.
I would have a few good small tents with me, a couple knives, many sets of flint and steel, a few packages of bic lighters, plastic and metal containers for keeping and boiling water/ food.
Clean water to drink without dieing of parasites will be the biggest adventure. You need to boil and filter that shit yourself or put some chemicals in spring water you come across.

why several tents? it will be pain in the ass enough to haul 1 let alone several.
I will definitely be taking one of those bottles you can throw in the fire that sanitizes your water as well as bringing some iodine tablets or whatever they are (I am faded and the name is escaping me currently)

I find it easy to make ad-hoc tents out of tarps and fallen tree limbs into sorta teepees. Often times abandoned tarps can be found in the middle of the woods or picked up cheaply at hardware stores.

Yeah I noticed big lots had some for 4 bucks each... but but.. I like my tent and dislike snakes who love warmth. id give up my sleep bag for an inflatable mat (which is probably what ill do. ill have clothes to keep me either cold or the heat
I changed my path. I am going through Utah along the colorado river and then that leads right to highway 40 where i can go straight to Denver and the surrounding areas, never been to Denver but always wanted to. should be a beautiful time of year the

What's good to have is a hennesy hammock or a similar camping hammock. The things weigh hardly anything and are much more compact than a tent. They also have integrated bug nets and rain covers and keep you off the ground as to avoid snakes.
I prefer to the ridge rest mats and find them lighter and easier to carry. If you are going with a car its easier to have a bunch of tents and air mattresses and crazy stuff.
Back in the day I used to travel with 70 lb packs, 4 bags and a all crazy weighed down with anything I could possibly need.
Nowadays I travel much lighter, usually with a pack resembling other people's day packs in size.

If you have money, connections, drugs or an amazing amount of faith in yourself and the world you can go gearless and fearless.

What I mean is no camping gear. Just bartering for what I need and places to stay along the way.
