I usually have a hundred or so left when i get my next cheque. All my money is currently going towards paying off debt - i can't wait until i build some savings.

All of my paper currency would get me arrested if I tried to spend it most places, and get me very high if I ate it. So I'm going to a concert tomorrow. A big zero other wise.

I have ~2.5k in the bank, with a summer job lined up once I graduate in a month, so that's basically all expendable. Going on a trip to Europe at the end of the summer, so I'm saving a good chunk of it for that.

I've budgeted that by the end of the summer, and after paying for my Euro-trip I should have ~$4000 saved up, of which I'm putting probably ~$1500 into retirement savings.
How many of you guys have a retirement fund started up? I'm 21 and I have 1k in a mutual fund, and like I said plan to up that to 2.5 by the end of the summer.

I never go broke between pay checks so I've usually got at least several hundred saved up in the bank for spending money.

I usually don't either, but I blew a tire and had to pay league fees for baseball this week. Shit happens, life comes in waves

I have a mutual fund which is making me a very small but steady growth. I only put 25$ a month for now, but will be increasing drastically in the next year or so. I've done it for the past couple years just to get used to putting money away...
It's a good habit to get into.

I put in $1000 last year and it's up to $1150 right now - pretty huge growth. It's a long-term investment though, so I was told it would fluctuate +-10% or so, so I don't expect the huge gains to continue forever.

you guys do know its almost 2012. Saving for retirement is futile. Money well be useless...stock up on firearms and gasoline for trading.
