How would Pot Culture be different if it had never been made illegal?
    #14248961 - 04/06/11 06:06 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Have you ever thought about how different the culture behind Marijuana would be if it had never been made illegal?

Are there some good things that wouldn't exist?

Would potheads be different? Would there be more stores selling paraphernalia as side items and less head shops?

would it be more prevalent or less prevalent? would you have met a crowd that did it or buy it at the store?

I think it would be far more prevalent.
The negative stigma is what scares a lot of people away from it, I think.
Even in this era of information.

I think it would be as common as alcohol.
Not in bar and club settings, mind you.
But in general.
You'd have your get-drunk-and-go-dancing nights.
And your get-stoned-and-chill nights.
Variety is the spice of life. :stoned:

Just as there are liquor stores now, there would be coffee shops or what-have-you.
They'd probably just be called "pot shops."
i.e. There wouldn't be a reason to sugarcoat it and call them coffee shops.

I imagine ten or so years after pot is legalized it will have reached a similar status as alcohol, where virtually everybody does it from time to time, and you have your cheap schwag and your super-expensive dank available.

Probably there will be remnants of stoner culture, but the culture as a whole will be absorbed by the mainstream.

It would have been no different to this culture as a whole ... consumption would be less IMHO thought. And that's a fact where I live: less prohibition means less consumption. Imagine if it goes fully legal ?

I imagine that actual rates of consumption will go down, but more people will be open to the idea of occasionally getting stoned.

It's like how something on the order of 95% of Americans drink at least occasionally.

It would be like alcohol culture.  Everyone would do it, no one would actually care about it.

IMO, cannabis culture would split between corporate consumers (those buying commercial pot only) and people with a green thumb.

count me as the latter.
I would be a complete nerd and horticulturist.

I think some people actually do care about alcohol culture there are quite serious connoisseurs of almost every form of alcohol.  A few people can actually "earn" a damn good living just by tasting for quality control and reviews.

Well at the very least they can get free booze out of it.
Cocktail bloggers are a good example of this.

If your blog is popular I'm sure most growers and breeders would be happy to give you free samples to review.
