the benefits of quitting cannabis

I haven't smoked for 4 days. I rarely take breaks from my usage. In the past 3 and a half years I have taken less than 5 substantial breaks with the longest being about 2 weeks and the shortest only a few days. After getting past one day without a toke I find it much more achievable to continue not smoking. The first day without is always the most challenging.
Typically, when I hear folks quitting weed I hear stories of increased depression, anxiety, and things of that nature. I personally feel the exact opposite. Here is a quote I found on another forum which shows many of the benefits one person observed after quitting.
Quote:
clear thinking; breathe better; smoother mood transitions; sharper mental dexterity; more articulate; better memory; working through stress more effectively; increased energy levels; reduced depression (after the first few weeks off); deeper interactions with others; no "bottomless pit" munching out; boosted confidence; no social anxiety; better focus on task at hand; enjoying simple pleasures more deeply; clear lungs; no concern about hiding something from my son; less stress; increased faith in my ability to control myself; no risk of arrest or legal troubles; increased joy; renewed self-respect; more free time; need to sleep less; more free cash; confidence to try new things; increased humility: asking others for help; better partnership with my girlfriend; better ability to learn and remember new songs (I'm a musician); can travel without paranoia of border checks; safer driving; ho hassles of finding good weed; no need to associate with shady dealers; not supporting organized crime; true bonds with friends rather than co-dependent drug abuse ties; better fitness level; reduced consumption of resources (ex. hydro power to grow the weed, chemical sprays and fertilizers, lighters/matches, rolling papers); new doors opening to spirit world (somewhere I only used to get to via cannabis); increased self-confidence to be "alternative" in ways other than drug use; confidence to take on any task I set my mind to; ability to strike up conversation with anyone I choose without fear or insecurity; no paranoia; increased motivation for self-improvement; feeling of wholeness that is not reliant on an external source.
from this post here which has many other comments that I find to be true or at least believable.
I have experienced many of the above quoted effects, primarily reduced anxiety, increased confidence, an abundance of energy (so much so that I find it difficult to sleep at night, but being up doing thangs is better than passing out before 10pm), and clearer, smoother thinking which helps with conversing with others by a LOT. Fuck, I even have found myself posting at the shroomery way more than I ever have the past few days because it doesn't feel like work to express my thoughts. Essentially for myself, in just 4 days of not smoking I have regained some of the vibrancy of life.
All this being said, I still cannot say that I am forever done with cannabis. In the past 3 and half years my habit has certainly defined my character...smoking is usually what I do when hanging with friends and it has definitely been my biggest expenditure over that period . Not only that, but the main reason I wanted to take a break from smoking in the first place is because it was getting boring/wasn't getting the high I wanted. I want to reduce my tolerance so that I can experience bud like a first time toker.
It is hard for me to admit that a drug I thought to be perfect with little side effects and one that I have done for so long at a heavy amount can be so negative to my overall being, however, I am admitting it now. If I were to smoke again I would at least want to cut back to on the nights, weekends, or every other day but I always find myself increasing my usage ever so slightly to where i was before I even quit. With that being said, I wouldn't want a few days of smoking a week to override the sensations I am feeling now, and should always feel because this is who I am without drugs.

The longer the break you take now the clearer you head will be. It took me about 6 months before I realized I had my brain back and the whole time I smoked I thought I was all there. I did smoke an eight a day on heavy days but now I can smoke a hit or tow and be cooked. I like that and only smoke every few months now tops besides the small week long stint with JWH.
Enjoy the break then enjoy the shit outta weed again later. I love weed but I love it enough to want to to work well on me so daily smoking is not an option. I want a body numbing out of body feeling high that is only possible with moderate usage.

I only get the severe anxiety if I dont have a tolerance and havent smoked in a while.
Id like to smoke everyday or not at all. Smoking once or twice a week/month gives me a severe panic attack.

I smoke every day. I stopped for a while, and I didn't really notice any change
The only thing I definitely noticed was reduced social anxiety. When I'm ripped and doing thangs, I always get this sense that people are looking at me, or paying more attention to me than they actually are. Other than that...I love the ganja

what you call a panic attack is my numb bliss. I do smoke a fat joint of regular decent mexi to get there as kind nugs will make me just a paranoid delusional freak if I take more then 1-2 hits. mids is where its at. I think the higher amounts of other cbd's and such help regulate the freak out factor maybe.

I've made it about 10 days now. I quit so I can find a decent paying job, plus I'm broke, so that helps.
It's OK I guess, I'm getting a lot of projects finished that I have been procrastinating on for a while. Haven't noticed any mood changes, but my attention span is defiantly better.
Well, I take that back, I was feeling depressed for 2 days after I quit, then that went away. Drinking beer occasionally helps.

If it was an indica and put me into a heavy couchlock i would worry less.
If i have a mostly sativa dank weed with a ridiculous thc content or hash (pretty much what I smoke) I have a freak attack.

I've NEVER freaked out whilst high. Ok I take that back, one time I was hella sick and smoked a fat grav bong bowl (this was when I was a rookie smoker) and I thought I was gonna die... Other than that, I've never freaked out. I've almost puked a couple times from being ripped outta my mind...but I just get into this super relaxed state where nothing can phase me.

There's only one thing that I've found beneficial to not smoking:
1. You get to dream again
That's pretty much it though. Besides the money you're saving, but I personally like smoke better than green paper.
When I stop, no appetite, I can't sleep, I'm irritable, stressed out. The world is just abrasive.
Smoking makes it smooooth

Bullshit. I quit nearly five years ago, and I don't miss it one bit. I tried it again after having been clean for a year, and it felt shitty. It's not that it felt different from the way it used to feel, but I found that I didn't enjoy seeing the world through a half-dreamlike daze. I remember how that feeling seemed enlightening back in High School, and perhaps it was beneficial at the time, but now I find it inhibiting.

i think when i don't smoke for a while my heads more clear........... i guess it really depends where you are, what you're doing....... i never have a definite answer to this question cause how random life is. i'm not even sure if i want to toke this summer, i'm somewhere between toking all day long or not toking at all, or just more so when im with friends who have weed.

The one downside I've found to not smoking pot is that when you pass a joint or pipe without taking a hit, people look at you like you're a narc.

It's not a myth, I dream far less during phases of heavy smoking, and when I give it up for a few days dreams come back, often uncannily vivid and intense.
If it doesn't happen for you, I'm envious. But I don't think that's enough evidence to call it a "myth"

Yeah, it happens to all my friends and I. After about a week of not smoking I start to have regular dreams again.
