Got it from this Russian guy who imports cars. He practically gave this one away. It's kinda vintage. It pretty much drives itself, such is the smoothness of the drive. you think?

It's kinda... well... a box. What kind of car is it? What year? Tell me more.
Looks like an old Volvo or something.
Congrats, It's nice having some wheels, specially when the car works good and was on the cheap.

IMO there is a difference between a "classic" car and a "crappy" car.
This is toeing the line.

It's an '86 Lada. He told me they call it "Lady Destroyer" back in Russia because in crashes with bigger vehicles it always seems to come out on top
Nice to know it can take a battering anyway,as long as his word is true.

You should get some bigger tires and take it off road.
Whats up with the words on the window? Does that shit come off or do you gotta just look through it?

Hahaaaa....my dad used to own one back in the late 1980s. Bought it brand new from a local dealership. He traded it for something decent after about 9 months when I shut the door and the handle came off (I was a skinny 8 year old at the time).

Haha,I remember a lot of jokes going around about Lada when I was small.
What do you call a Lada convertible? A Skip.
Hopefully I'll do better with this!

I remember my dad had it converted to run on natural gas. I also remember that when I was taken to school in winter, we used to get up half an hour early to allow for the difficulties in getting it to start.

Why is the Lada's rear window heated? So the hands of the people pushing it will not freeze.

It depends on your preferences, but if it were mine I'd buff and wax the hell out of it, put some nice offset 16"-17" wheels on it and drop it a few inches. That thing looks cool!

that thing looks fuckin tight dude it would be a runner if you drop an american or jap drive trane in it. i know people that if they had bought it when you did, the motor would already be out lol seriously do a little research find out what fuel injected motor is considered a mild swap for that make and model it could be done in a days time by the right people. and you would have a fuckin sleeper on your hands.

It's made out of this weird material; all you can see from the inside is a faint outline of the letters. Almost see through. Them Russians and their crazy technology!

I might get some wheels alright but I like the dirty look,I'll just blend in the with the rest and I won't stick out

just a VW 4 cyl with a 5 sp trans would smoke pussy hair off a blind red head... thats if you want fuel economy too. if your ok with a little lower fuel economy the gm 350 was the middle finger to all car companys designs at the time it came out in a hence that gm's 350 would replace there pos motor after went out for a fraction of the price american and foreign. i've seen geo metros with 350 not a mild swap because orgionally fwd but its scary to ride in.

Yeah, the line gets drawn at '79. if it's newer it's crap, if it's older it's classic.

Go watch the Top Gear where they tested old Soviet cars, I think one of them was a Lada.
It was hilarious how horrible those things were.

This time, it deserved a bashing. Soviets aren't exactly world renowned for their automobiles.
I hope the guy paid you to get it and not the other way around.

So the Lada finally gave up on me. The engine just fell out of the thing as I was driving along. Was a quiet road luckily.

lol and the real reason they called it the lady killer is because in order to get a pick a lady up in it you would have to hit them and drag her into it. just kidding, its a cool car in its own rights

by the engine falling out do you mean one of your motor mounts busted? Has the car been around an ocean for most of it's life? Or an area where it snows a lot and the roads get salted often? The salt will make a car rust horribly. When you live in area's like that it's a good idea to detail your engine bay at least yearly to remove all the salt buildup under the hood.
I wanna see pictures of this "engine falling out" This is a phenomenon I've yet to experience.

Well I was going a decent speed for the small road it was but I had to slow down sharpish turning this corner and the thing just fell out the front of the thing and skidded across the road, as if someone who wasn't belted in got a jolt and went into the windscreen.
Just took my papers and tucked the thing in past the corner at the side of the road.
Moved address since leaving it there so would be tough enough to trace it back to me I think.

you can get a few hundred bucks at a scrap yard for the car. Probably call them and they'd come pick it up and pay you for the title.

What good is England? Could that be like a meeting point for us both?
If I can get a good rate on a ferry I could ship her over to Iceland if that would work.

surely you dont expect me to drive all the way, the least you could do is push the junker to england, it'll be so much easier now that there's no heavy engine to hold you back, shit, it's just a few miles for you, not like the 3000 miles I'd be driving

I cant get the wrecker on a submarine... doors are too small, I'd have to cut up the bed and reassemble it once on board and then repeat the process once I arrived at my destination, then repeat the process for the return trip
that's a lot of extra work
