Take your fun to the Pub, bub, PSP is serious business.
You may be right though.
Do people use fun in any way, to grow in some aspect?, or is it totally superfluous in regard to the process of Life?

it is overwhelming because it is endless, an infinite reminder of your reality. we can take our minds off of it, but only temporarily. the despair is a recurring theme.

you're looking at it all wrong, my friend. it's not necessarily "more powerful" than despair. fun is like a drug. you have some fun, get your endorphins going, and you start to really get a kick out of life. then, it wears off.

wow you are fucking dull homie
i wasn't talking about feeling despair. i was talking about despair in general, aka starving children in africa, welfare, war, death, famine, AIDS, human rights, cancer, etc.
in other words, we push away all the bad stuff about the world by focusing on what we enjoy.

I agree that for most humans, fun is probably a coping mechanism. On the other hand, I can envision a sociopath having fun without a reminding net of humanity's suffering underneath him.

Can't fun just be fun? Does it need to be useful?
I don't buy that life is despair. Sadness is no more "correct" of an emotion than happiness; they are both equally valid/invalid. In other words, pessimism is stoooopid.

What have we gained?
Nothing, which is why proclaiming someone's conclusion is pretty much pointless in the general case in a philosophical discussion. This is why it makes sense to justify yoru claims, produce an argumetn premised upon stated facts that might inform as to the relationships between various things and arrive at a useful conclusion.
It seems that we're forever having someone come in here and just make naked claims that won't back up their argument or address any criticism. Seems entirely worthless to me, yet it happens quite often. Often we get a page or two of someone equivocating before finally saying they will not philosophically support their idea, then they stop posting.
What have we gained, indeed- could probably do without that kind of "contribution".

Yeah, I don't understand that one either.
It was mostly a joke. It's on the individual's end what gets taken out of posting here. Some might get emotional release, some might get insight, some might get entertainment, some might get ego boosts, some might get friendship, some might get... It really is on the subjective level, there is nothing objective to take away. So like I said, no one is going to give you stuff just because you post here. If everyone who posted here was given something, then there is a kind of objective incentive "we" can discuss. As it is, it's all a subjective incentive.
It's a question best answered by the individual doing the posting. There isn't any sort of realistic consensus beyond figure it out yourself

So there has never been a communal philosophy that a group of people agreed upon together, and never has it benefited the group?
