Brf spawn to horse poo

Alright, so if I was to spawn a 1/2 pint cake to some nice aged horse manure(pasturized, verm added, and brought to its propper field capacity) , then case it with verm once colonized. what would be my difference in yields versus fruiting it as a cake? And yes, I've done a ton of research on this. Also I'd be using a 50/50 mixture and my tray is roughly 12''x6'' and about 2 deep. Cheers folks.

well, clearly with greater moisture, nutrients, and mycelium you'll get more. come on.

Yes I've also heard the theorie that cakes do better as cakes, I guess ill do a little experiment with this and post my yields from both.. Also, if the results are close this wouldn't really justify casing with cakes for me. I mean, look at all the extra work you would have to do, with little to no benefit. I have a good feeling a nice poo tray done right will blow brf cakes out of the water. I'll keep you guys post on this.. and ill throw up some pics of my fruits for you guys when I harvest. How would I dunk a hpoo casing? Or would I pre dunk my cake, crumble, and use a mister to retain proper moisture content?

I've seen that a lot too. If you got hpoo around using grains is the way to go. Rye Berries, Wild Bird Seed, and Popcorn are common.
is the hpoo they sell at places like ace hardware the stuff to use? or do i need to special order the pre pasteurized shit online?

You can use store bought, just pasturize it like any other poo. It's very simple search it you will find multiple pasurizing teks. It's best to use nice aged horse nugs though, leached by the weather. Look for the dung that's lighter in color (basically looks like white nuggets of straw) then pasturize and go from there.

word thanks
first time with bulk right now, but i might give hpoo a try next grow on a tub or 2.
when you say "leeched by the weather" what exactly do you mean? should i just leave it outside out of the bag or something?

Pf cakes when done properly provide the exact same amount of nutrition as any other type of grain, the reason people use grains for spawn to bulk is because of a higher spawn ratio, ease in mass preparation, less spore solution required, isolates and G2G transfers are the benefits bulk growers have.
A 1L rye jar will spawn 6L of bulk material
opposed to 1 250ml pf cake spawning to 3 250ml jars of bulk.
So if you wanted larger more prolific flushes just keep upping the amount of pf cakes required to fill a bin worth of spawn. Hope that clears up every ones confusion about spawn mediums, its all spawn in the end

yeah.. lots of spawn is a good thing.. i use a pretty decent spawn ratio, as well.. for WBS to coir, I use 3 quarts of WBS to 1 brick, and this has worked just dandy.. its not a lot, but it serves..
if you want to get the most out of your BRF cake for spawn, then use a cheese grater, and grate the cake into the sub.. works well, in a pinch..

sometimes, huge temp swings or differences can "sweat" out some of the moisture from your sub..

Alright, well I did this horse poo spawn thing today.. it was fairly easy. I went with about 50/50 maybe a tad more hpoo, with a little verm added. The hpoo was pasturized for atleast an hour, maybe two. It continued to pasturize after I took it off the stove. Earlier I had birth my cake at about 97% and cut the extra verm/rice off. It wasnt much at all. I made the mistake of dropping it in the sink though (lol) so hopefully I didn't pick up a contam. Anyways, it was dunked for about 3-4 hours in cold water, and crumbled in a plastic bag. I mixed them both together ( making sure my sub was at proper field capacity) and through this in a tray. Put alum. Foil over it and its back in the incubator. Keep in mind this is my first grow.. if you can make a brf cake this is not much harder. Will be posting results. Also, thinking I'm gonna give it a very light verm casing before I fruit.

I'm confused here, can someone that's experienced with hpoo bulk help me out. First off, what temp should this tray be at? I heard hpoo creates a lot more heat, usually 10-15 degrees. So should I incubator at 70? And if I used around a 50/50 subtrate spawn mix how long should colonizing take? It's like 1.5 inches maybe 2 deep, and is in a 6x12'' tray.

you should be to 100% in like 7-10 days...no problem.70 will be good on temps...i would say give it some ge..few small holes in foil...it will help with contams and faster colonization...good luck

I wouldn't worry about your substrate generating heat its too shallow its only on deeper substrate depths that it generates heat

This is so true . BRF is actually superior to any other substrate I've ever used from a BE point of view .
The last time I did some cakes , I got first flushes of 106 wet grams , 110 and varying down to 86 as a low on 12 cakes .
Each pf cake ,when done in a 1/2 pint to a 2:1:1 ratio contains 1 oz. of dry BRF , or 28 grams . Divide 110 by 28 and you get 3.5 , or 350% BE . Divide 86 , my low first flush on the cakes and you get 300% BE , and that didn't include later flushes , but 300-350% BE is fantastic .It's just so hard to come up with a way to make a 5 pound BRF,lol .
I plan on working on a way to use BRF in larger quantities to fruit.

Right on. I'd be fucking ecstatic if I got one of those "perfect" per say pinsets my first try. Either way, I can easily see this thing doing better than a cake.. we will see. Hopefully it colonizes fast though.. More questions. Dunking? Or just compensate with a spray bottle? Is a casing layer REALLY worth it? Considering it would be enough verm to just about get a whole nother tray going. Would it help keep the moisture in/ the pin set?

I'd definitely dunk after your first flush , and each one after that .
I gave up on casing H/POO bulk substrates many years ago and never looked back . I compared cased to uncased and actually got better results on my uncased . I have a post about it somewhere .
Grain subs can benefit from a casing layer , but I don't feel it's necessary with poo if you maintain good fruiting conditions.
