I personally like the appearance of the lophophora genus, and from there I really love peyote

I think the ariocarpus and astrophytums are some of the coolest in terms of cacti.  Delosperma cooperi has awesoem flowers and can live through frozen winters.  Also look into lithops.

For colored flowers, check out some of the varieties of orchid cacti or epi-cacti, lots of nice ones with a range of colors available.

^This is the first one I had flower. Hard to tell from the picture but the flower is about 8" across.

What species is that, that's gorgeous!

It's a Epiphyllum hybrid. A hybrid with what, I don't think anybody knows exactly.  The variety is called "Fiesta de Flores".

Do you chew it straight from the plant? I've found Kanna is a great plant to cultivate. It's so easy taking cuttings. Multiple plants around the home....

I follow the standard method of fermenting and drying THEN chew it. Haven't tried it fresh because I heard some of the less pleasant chemicals need to be oxidized before use.

I alway envisioned kanna as a tree or shrub. Those plants look pretty fucking cool. I've used kanna before that was from natures-mind when it was still operating. It was presented to me as a snuff so thats how I used it. Have you tried snorting it? If so, do you find that the effects are substantially different? On the Erowid page it mentioned that its used for visionary purposes, but it also mentions that the roots are used with the leaf. Have you tried this?

My bedroom is a greenhouse also. I'm like a fucking hoarder with plants.

Yeah, the wikipedia picture is especially confusing -_-. Snuff is one of the most popular ways, I've heard. Personally I can't motivate myself to snort things though, so usually I'll make a tea or just chew it. The results are very calming and mildly "Psychadelic-ish". I say "Ish" because it's more of an SSRI than Hallucinogen with more of a body experience than a walls warping and cool visions thing. Very good for yoga or meditation!

I only use the stems/leaf from pruning the plants, that way I'll always have a good supply.
(I'm a tad neurotic about potentially harming the roots >_>)

My favourite succulents are the Titanopsis genus

For cacti, there is too many
Lately I am most drawn to Eriosyce, Tephrocactus, and select Gymnocalyiums

Those first ones look like tortoise feet and the second ones are amazing! Where is a good place to find specialty succulents of cacti like those?

Well I hope you don't like to fondle the Tephrocactus. Their glochids are by far the worst I've seen in the cactus family so far. And all it takes is a small brush to end up with 100s stuck in your skin like burning bits of fiberglass.

Fortunately my favourite, Tephrocactus geometricus aren't too vicious in that regard.

There could very well be compounds in the roots not present in the rest of the plant, different ratios of them, or just plain higher concentrations. You might want to try it sometime. I mean if its roots and not a central rhizome or tuber then it would seem like you could take a bit off of the bottom without too much ill effect. Someone mentioned that its easy to propagate from cuttings. That would to me suggest that taking a little root off probably wouldn't kill it.
