I wanna send chocolate buddy christs out for easter to half of my family.
I guess I'll cast it into plaster of paris, though I don't really know what I'm doing.

you need to carve or make a clay mold first then cast that into liquid rubber.

Would it work to just use the clay mold?

dental alginate is ideal, you can make a casting in it or make a silion positive to make silicone molds from, silicon being reusible

you really need the flexibility of silicone over a stiff mold like clay. The stuff from hobby lobby works great and is super smooth and the chocolates slide right out. I don't know how much dental alginate you get for 30 bucks but at hobby lobby you get a little 8 ounce or so cup of the quick set stuff that will last a few hundred uses or more. It is tried and tested.

if you can carve a clay one you can then cast it. You can even find a cool mushroom made of plastic then cast it in silicone.

those are tiny and the plastic sucks. silicone molds are way better.

yeah I found those but they aren't big enough
so I can find that Alumilite stuff at a hobby store or just buy it online for around $30?
EDIT: I don't think 1 1/4 inch small mushroom will be big enough for a decent dose with sclerotia

are the stones dry? if they are grind them right before you make the chocolate. You can also just cast a chocolate bar that is already made then re wrap them. slice it open along the edge then glue it shut.

You can buy a chocolate Jesus from someone who already has the mold. Go to customchocolate.net and search for Jesus.

the make a buddy christ statue and you could make a mold off of it but it looks like you may have to cut the mold in three sections or so to release the chocolate. You could even get colored candy melts to pain the mold so he has a white robe and such. ebay one
I would cast it in the silicone then cut it out trying to follow the lines found on it already. It will be hard to do since you wont be able to really see it in the mold but maybe try to glue a few toothpicks or something along the lines you want to cut. It might be a four piece mold for the one on ebay.
To make the chocolate you just need to assemble the mold together the put a few rubber bands on it or tape and fill it up. Let it set a bit then pour it out if you want it hollow. If you drill some holes in the mold where you can insert some plastic or smooth wood dowels it makes it easier to line it all up.

that's what the alginate is for, it allows you to make the negative of what ever you want and it allows for incredible detail, once the alginate is set which only takes about 5 minutes you can then use that to make the positive for your silicon molds, alginate works on soft tissues as well as rigid parts

if you have a little statue there is no need for clay or alginate. I have made some little shrooms in plasticine before but if the statue is available to make a mold of just pour the silicone over if and vibrate it a bit to get air out of it.
