Everyone told me when I did my first cakes to fruit them as cakes, and to wait till I did grains to case. They say cakes fruit better as cakes. You could stack them on top of each other if room is the issue. I saw a really good grow on here that did that with cakes.

Well space isn't an Issue. I have enough room and anonymity that I could easily do cash crop levels of production. I am just not used to flying solo yet. Still trying to find my comfortable niche. My past experience was mainly as a helper, so pc'ing and inoculating was new to me. I am pretty comfy with it now though. My jars are coming along nicely and so far only one out of the dozen got contams.
I tried to do an LC but that didn't do anything. Did it at same rime as my jars, using 4% Karo solution. But no dice.
So seed/grains are better cased? Good to know.

Plain unspawned grains are fruited with a casing layer, yes. Works surprisingly well, but not as efficient as spawning to bulk material.

Cool. Had seriously considered purchasing some rye from the local feed lot and trying my luck with it as well, but for a while I am going to just do cakes until I am comfortable enough to try something a little more extravagant. Am currently having pretty good luck with colonization on BRF cakes, so why rock the boat until I have more grows under my belt...

I am not even entirely certain what to ask for at the feed lot. Or, for that matter, what a plausible excuse for purchasing rye berry would be. Lol

Rye grain or rye berries. It might also be called winter rye or hard rye.
They won't ask what it's for, but if so just tell them about your mushrooms. People love the fact you can grow oysters on shredded junk mail and used coffee grounds.

If you have a local health food market they usually have rye berries for less than $1 a pound, at mine you just go to the bulk grain aisle and look for rye berries, scoop as much as you want into bag, and weigh it to see if you need more.

My half pints are positively ZOOMING along. Starting to see the beginnings of growth in my pint jars as well.
Here is food for thought. In four of my pints I mixed one tablespoon of raw sugar (between all four pints mind you), just to see if it made any difference whatsoever. Guess which jars showed growth first? Yup, the sugared ones. No growth at all yet in the "diet" subs. I know, it may just be a coincidence, but it is definitely interesting. Think I will re create this little experiment a few more times, and if results continue to show a boost in sugared jars, I will adopt this as a standard. Will also document this with pics next time I do it.

A little gypsum and coffee will speed them up too.

Something you might want to consider on adding carbs (sugar) to your spawn. Imagine being the mycelium and loving that sugar-high during the spawn phase. After, when you spawn to bulk and that "rush" of sugar isn't present, you might get a headache or feel weak, right?
This is purely intuitive speculation, but I don't see pros using simple sugars in there spawn. gypsum for sure. coffee, I've had good results with it. just a pinch.

Well, in the spirit of "Go hard or just go home," I am setting up another dozen jars. Am trying to space the sets of jars out by about 3 to four weeks, that way I will have harvests in closer proximity to each other. Am also going to try another LC jar, hopefully this one will take. I have seen SOOOOOO many LC teks on this site. Any thoughts on which is the best to use? Tried Karo last time and no growth. I have no clue where to find Light Malt Extract or Dextrose (I live in a TINY town), so maybe I should try honey? Or karo again, maybe I just messed it up last time?

I've always used honey, or karo, and both alays worked great...its only bee here recently that I switched up to ELME, and I myself like honey or karo better...less sediments for me..
as well colonization times are quicker with karo or honey.
