GLC syringe question, multiple transfers.....
    #14243525 - 04/05/11 06:37 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I did a GLC tek and was successful.  Syringes are good and tested. Only one left. Ive had it sitting at room temperature for about 4 weeks.  Can I use this syringe to inoculate another grain jar that would later be used for more GLC syringes?....Ive been reading about G2G transfers but not sure if this fits in the same category.  I didn't mean to keep it out for weeks, but forgot about the little bugger....Any opinions or input here?

Go ahead and refrigerate it now.
Instead of making more GLC, expand the grain with a level of g2g.
So a few drops of your master syringe into a grain jar becomes 5-10 quarts of spawn.

I am confused by this.  Please explain.

1CC GLC > 1L Rye

1L Rye G2G > 10L Rye

10L Rye G2G > 100L Rye

1cc of grain LC can be turned into 100L of grain spawn in no time.

How is this better than just making another LC?  LCs are faster anyway.

To each there own,

I prefer G2G to expand my edible spawn, some prefer LC. Whatever works
for you.

How much grain do you usually transfer into another grain jar?  Do you mix the grain around after inoculating the fresh grain?

It all depends, the more grain you use the faster your donor jars will
colonize obviously.

On a recent shiitake spawn run I went from 1L of wheat berries over
to 10 donor jars. I shake the jars after the G2G, and once again at
around 30-40%. Jars usually finish up between 8-14 days depending
upon the amount of spawn used.

I also find that half pints are good G2G starters and you can go from
1 Pint of colonized grain > 4-5L's of donor grain.

Faster is not necessarily better.
And starting LC from GLC is better than spores, but still sketchy.
GLC->grain master->g2g is the safest and fastest way to get Too Much Spawn.

One drawback is having to test your LC`s before using it for big
projects. You can tell if a grain jar has any contaminates before you
G2G out.

You only lose 1-3 days testing your LC(If you use agar) but that is
still a few days slower then visually inspecting your G2G jars.

NOTE: I am talking about sugar based LC`s here, not GLC.

See above, I am not talking about GLC, but sugar based LC`s.

As far as I am concerned in the G2G VS GLC debate, take your pick
they both have the same results.

Those using GLC are getting it using Agars tek im assuming.  At the end of the tek he just states something like now you have 500ml of myc water so you can fill Ten 10cc syringes of myc water.  The question I have is can this be done immediately or does the myc have to sit in the jar for a few days to recover?  Also what is the recommended shelf life on these Syringes once made?

Thanks,

-Nushie

Ok to use immediately, store in the fridge for months.

You can draw out your grain LC syringes immediately after creation.

As the GLC sits in the syringe for a few days you will notice the mycelium
will recover and start to grow back together into clumps. Be sure to
give it a good shake before using to break up the mycelium and create
more inoculation points.

In my experience a grain LC syringe will stay viable for 5-6 months
if stored under refrigeration.

Hey guys so I went to make my glc today from my two wbs jars and came to realize that the feed store which supplied my 60ml syringe gave me needles that don't fit! So I'm sitting there all SABed up and said fuck it and pulled the lid off of one of my grain jars and sterile water jars. Then made my GLC with the lids off almost like you would G2G. I understand this is MUCH more risky with contams but was just curious if there is pretty much no chance this will be contam free? In this ghetto process a piece of millet or two came through will this be a problem if I use the lc this week? (I assume much after that those will for sure cause contamination). Either way tomorrow I will hunt down the needle I need and properly make my other glc!

GB

How long did you wash your hands for before opening the jar?
