this is another kind of the same one i found a few days ago. this thing is 16 inches across and are all over my woods. can anyone id it? 1



2 polyporous squamosus? feels more tender than most


3 Habitat: Wood - Found in deciduous woods, growing straight from a fallen rotting tree.
Gills: The gill color varies from a white to a light pinkish color. The gills are free.
Stem: yellow, tough
Cap: brownish yellow
Bruising: you cant see it in the picture but it is bruising blue
Location: southern kentucky


4 Habitat: right underneath a fallen log in the dirt
Gills: brown
Stem: white, slightly fragile, thin
Cap: creme color.
Bruising: brown
Location: southern ky

3 looks like a young gymnopilus spectabilis or junonious 4 could be an agrocybe

my guess for number 3 would be Gym. luteus givin the skinny stipe and solitary growth.

1 dont know 2 Polyporous squamosus 3 Need better pics. "white to a light pinkish color. The gills are free" Doesn't fit the description of G. luteus. 4 Psathyrella species

That definately looks like an active gym. If I had to guess, gymnopilus fulvosquamulosus. There are no poisonous gyms, but one won't get you high. Still an AWESOME find. I'm in Ky

I'm hoping Sat. In Paducah. I look at the mayapples. I never find any until they are all the way opened up for a couple days. Directly

1 Ganoderma applanatum 2 Polyporus squamosus 3 Looks like Gymnopilus luteus. I think I see bruising on the gills. A spore print might help rule out Pholiota. 4 Probably Psathyrella. A spore print and better pics might help to confirm.

i already ate numbers 2 and 3
i had a delicious squamosus omelet and will probably bread it and cook it like calimari tomorrow
i may go and get all the artist conks and see if my sister wants to paint them. i would make a tea but these look too old
