is it true that higher temps are related to higher potency to an extent?
if so what causes this?

i think it's the opposite. though i don't think it has been proven scientifically. in my opinion, the slower they grow the better. not rediculously slow, just at at a more moderate pace. anything above 80f is just too warm...in my opinion of course.

uhhh, only thing ive heard regarding potency is cooking shrooms, extreme heat kills psyilocyben i do believe.

Yes I too have heard the rumour that lower fruiting temps = high potency. However I have seen no proof or documentation regarding the subject.

psilocybin and psilocin are broken down at temperatures that exceed 106 degrees F but I could be wrong. I am interested about this low fruiting temperature talk though. Maybe I will make a post about it.

I believe it is only psilocin that breaks down under heat and light. Psilocybin is broken down by something or another in your stomoch. I forget the full details and my mind isnt working too well right now

thanks for sharing your opinion about something you admittedly know nothing about!
I'll side with felix on this one, in afoaf of afoaf's experiences, those grown in cooler temps seem to be much bluer than those grown in warmer conditions.
how you interpret 'bluer' is up to you.

afoaf..sixcee...it's an old kept secret. those kids that are so anxious to get super dooper boomers have no discipline in the art of Quality mushroom refinement.

I forget the full details and my mind isnt working too well right now my point was that you made a half assed assertion of what was expected to be fact and then discredited yourself by questioning whether or not you were fully functional, cognitively speaking, of course. it's ok, it happens a lot. but... if I remember correctly, both are suceptible to oxidization, breaking down upon contact with oxygen. but one is far more unstable than the other and breaks down more readily. I believe psilocin tends to deteriorate more rapidly than psilocybin. unfortunately, search is down, so I cannot support my points, this is why I will retract them and not offer them as an answer to the poster's query. which, really, brings us back to my original point. which, really, is beside the point. back to the topic at hand, I dare anyone to drop the temp of their terrarium 10 degrees to induce pinning and keep it there. preferrably around the low to mid 60's. watch what happens. (edit: typos)

psilocin starts getting destroyed the second you pick the mushroom. this sucks because psilocin is much more potent than psilocybin. dried mushrooms lose a lot of psilocin. my friend recently grew TC and he said that each mushroom took a week or more to mature (much longer than typical 2-5 days). he ate 1.25g of aborts on the beach over spring break and said he tripped quite hard. 4 days later he ate 3.75g of mature mushrooms ground up into powder and put in a pp&j sandwich and said that he tripped WAY harder than any other mushroom trip ever. he said that no eighth was even NEAR the power of these homegrown, slow TC. he compared the trip to at least 2 or 3 hits of strong acid; something quite extraordinary for an average shroom dose... so maybe slow mushrooms are good? i dunno, but from what my friend says, there could possibly be a connection - although we're not sure. peace

You are right both are suseptible to break down and psilocin is the less stable one.
" Psilocybin and psilocin are part of the tryptamine family (indole (C8H7N) & ethylamine side chain). Chemically the only difference between psilocybin and psilocin is the presence of phoshoric acid in psilocybin which acts as a stabilizer. Psilocin is extremely unstable and sensitive to oxidation because it lacks this phoshoric radical http://chemweb.calpoly.edu/chem/bailey/377/PapersSp2000/Tim/PoisonP.html "
I am sory about my half ass assertion, but you did no better. As you failed to answer the original question and I ran off on a tangent.
I honestly believe temperature has the one of the least effects on potency between UV light, oxidization and temperature. I dont think there has been any tests done for a direct comparison between temperature and potency.
Higher temps does increase oxidization rate and reduce potency that way. hmm i could go on but id rather not.
BTW.. I believe psilocin is what is used by the body, but psilocybin is broken down by your body and then used.

well the reason i brought this up is i was searching around the net and came to ggreatone's site (forgot what it was) and it had a little box that had "Temperature = Potency". now it didn't state hot or cold, and i know about heat breaking down potency when shrooms are stored, so what i was questioning is whether say shrooms of the same "race" that grow in a hotter climate might be more potent.
my rambling make any sense?

i don't know about that...taking only 2-3 tabs of acid acid doesn't come close to my typical mushroom experiences

Terrapin Sunrise... you say that 3.75g of dried shrooms are only "an average shroom dose"... i'd say thats a fairly high dose, unless the shrooms i pick are way fukin stronger than yrs... ???
