I leave that hole out on purpose, and plan on just misting very heavily.
I get the pellets from my local farmer supply, 20 bucks for 40 lbs bags.
The brand is traeger

I never had either, until I searched it this morning in google image,
It will be pretty cool if it performs decently,... If so maybe I will stop making the blocks and just run monos when I grow oysters,........
I am pretty skeptical though without the oat bran in it, but just pasteurizing instead of sterilizing is mighty convenient....

Nice grow!
But wow, $20/40lb bag? Around here compressed oak fuel pellets are $4/40lb. Maybe they are differences though.

These are food grade pellets not fuel pellets. They are for BBQ'ing, not heating a home.
Usually I get sawdust from a local mill but, I was too lazy to go over there this time around. I just grabbed these pellets when I was at the farmer's supply getting verm. The catch is the guys that work at the mill take a long time if you go there in the winter, and I didn't want to wait 1/2 hour plus to wait for them.
I went there for some wood chips and saw dust back a coouple months ago and it took an hour for them to get their shit together

nice idea, but surely they gonna turn out leggy in there, they'll not the required fresh air i would consider removing all the polyfil, interested to see how it will perform, maybe a MSG would be a better shot. Good to see the two same strain/sub run side by side

yea, I have 2 holes unplugged now.
We will just have to wait and see...
Like I said I just didn't have time to expand them and prep them correctly so this is kind of an experiment of a sort, just to see what happens with them in a mono .....
I hadn't even realized eatyualive had done one, let alone a pink one, until this morning after I posted.
It just worked out that way

You do some great work.
Your ingredients are basically wood and gypsum. It seems to work well. Can't wait to see the final results.

My thoughts were to pump out instead of in. The issue with the tubs is the collection of relatively heavy CO2. Pumping in would probably not be nearly as effective at removing the CO2 accumulation as pumping out considering the holes are more or less at the level of the bed of mycelium. Fresh air will naturally replace the evacuated CO2 and polyfill could filter the incoming air.

What was the ratio of spawn to substrate you used? So how many days since spawn to substrate is this!?!? It seems so fast!
EDIT: Most of things questions were answered in the OP. But I would like to know what you'd guess the volume of substrate was. 9 quarts of spawn to roughly how many quarts of substrate? What are the dimensions of that tub too?
Cheers,

Bad ass! How'd you get the substrate out of the tub?

It is still in the tub, I take them out all the time though, all you have to do is carefully grab all four corners and lift it out, kind of like a hammock.
Then you pick, dunk, and reload.

Those look awesome!

the big cluster?
was that near one of the airholes?
How do you think the experiment when PPH, what are your thoughts?
Looks like the air exchange was nowhere near enough.
Great pics and interesting grow.

Yea, there are 4 big clusters located right in front of all the side holes. The weird thing is thast they still developed that way even though I fruited it will the lid off and all the holes pulled out? I think if you were to just colonize the substrate in the tub and then lift it right out of the tub and put it outside on its side, leaned up against a tree in the shade this issue may be corrected.
I will try this on my next one. I'll update later today., Looks like it is going to yield about the same as 1 bag would on the first flush, which sux kuz a bag has 1/4 the product in it.
Like I said this is purely experimental, as I am going to try and figure out a good way to fruit these things in a mono.....
I know it can be done! ....... I know I am obsessed with monotubs, you guys don't need to remind me,

Awesome!
Oysters are really picky about FAE. Maybe drill MSG style, but with an extra row of holes below substrate level? An option for a classic monotub would be to colonize in a smaller tub like a 6qt shoebox, then use a monotub w/perlite as an FC. But I just don't see oysters thriving in a tub.

me too, but the block removed and on a GH shelf would be nice!
Sure would produce a decent flush.

That is what I was thinking about that but I am rapidly abandoning the idea. I think ......

using the tubs to colonize the substrate blocks, and
Pulling them right up out of the tubs is the best option.
They just like FAE way too much to even try messing around with them in tubz,
But the tub can be a very useful vessel for colonizing them ,.....
Here are some final shots of the mono fruiting. I think I am going to put in outside out of the tub for the second flush, I will update once that time comes......

Provided you keep the bag on five sides of the block it should be fine. Well, assuming there's still a fair bit of humidity in the room.
