My Beautiful Reishi's
    #14239036 - 04/04/11 10:15 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I first spawned these bags around the beginning of February. I decided to fruit each bag differently. The bag on the left had the top of its bag cut off, and then eventually removed completely. Leaving the bag on was problematic because of the yellow liquid that pooled. I left the bag on the right closed completely with no holes other than the filter.

As you can see, antlers formed on the block on the left while the bag on the right formed a very large conk. I just cut the top off of the bag on the right for viewing purposes. The conk formed along the inside lining of the bag towards the filter.

Im loving these reishi's! They are continuing to grow and become a little bit thicker. I'm waiting to see what the conk block will do now that it is exposed.

I will not be consuming these reishi's because I used home depot sawdust.

Fruiting Conditions:
Light: 12 hours a day
Temperature: 70-75 degrees
Humidity: 80-95 %
Air transfer: Every 2 hours, even at night.

Strain/Spawn info:
Strain: Ganoderma lucidum from sporeworks.com
Rye grain spawn to sawdust/woodchips/gypsum

Looking great! No reason not to eat them because of the sawdust though! Whatever compounds you're worried about are likely not in the fruiting body!

Agreed.  I've eaten pounds upon pounds of mushrooms grown from Home Depot sawdust.  Not worth a second thought IMHO.

Aside from that, fantastic grow.  Every reishi grow I see I get more and more impatient to give them a try.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing!

Great looking fruits you have there I must say.

Have you ever considered using hardwood fuel pellets for pellet stoves
to spawn to?

I use pasteurized fuel pellets and have had great success with the
sporeworks strain.
