Inoculate then shake??

I inoculated 5 quart jars today (rye grain) with LC (2 qts) and spore syringe (3 qts). Was I supposed to shake the jars after inoculation?
If yes - can I do it now?
Thanks.

I had read that you should shake right after innoc to spread it out, but yesterday, I read that by shaking it up, you're reducing the chance of myc finding compatible myc to mate with. By not shaking, you're keeping all the myc together, increasing the speed at which they get it on.
I'm about to noc up a bunch of jars and don't plan on shaking.

with a spore syringe you dont want to shake. with an LC it's ok to shake, but some people dont. since 3 of your jars were with spores, it's probably better that you didnt. just leave all the jars alone, and you should be fine

Compatible mates have already been found being that LC's a live culture so it's safe to shake upon inoculation. If you'v already inoculated hours ago, I'd just leave it alone. Let it do it's thing and next time I inoculated a sterile grain medium with a live culture, I'd be sure to shake upon inoculation.
It's been forever since I'v inoculated grains with spores. When I used to do that, the practice of a slight shake upon inoculation was employed to spread the spores around the substrate, creating more inoculation points. More importantly IMHO, the shake upon inoculation was employed to distribute evenly, through out the grains, the extra moisture introduced by inoculating with a liquid inoculant, decreasing vectors for fermentation and mold to set in from moisture pooling at the bottom of the bag(s) or jar(s).

if you inoculate with a spore suspension there will definitely land more than 1 spore on a piece of grain.
so, despite of shaking, they are close enough together to meet.
when inoculate with spores: shaking, no shaking - doesnt make a difference imo.

Agree with exactly what hamloaf said. You don't want any liquid sitting at the bottom so personally I prefer to shake them after innoc.

LC stands for liquid culture. I'll post a link to a tek but basically you inject spores from a spore syringe into a water/honey mixture and the mycelium grows in the liquid. You then take a large syringe with a large needle and transfer the mycelium to agar or grain or another liquid material. It's a way to propagate mycelium.
Read this link. It's a method that does not require a Pressure Cooker. I see from your post count that you are (or appear to be) new here. You should start with the PF TEK then move forward from there. Good luck.

Shake with LC, shake with spores. Spores will find mates and hook up no matter how far apart they are. Your syringe probably already has mating happening at the time of inoculation.
