Thats pretty much what I was thinking. Reptiles are just badass in general. I've got a bearded dragon named lil chill. His specialty is... chilling.

They would be so fun to watch and checkout while tripping. I would just be afraid to squash them on accident or break one of their limbs/toes, like you said.

Reminds me of Castaneda in The Teachings of Don Juan, when he crushed the lizards,I think it was. While in an entheogenic state.

I was wondering...how do they SHIP them...? because don't they have to stay at relatively warm temperature and such? I feel like I would be worried about the health of the little guy packaged and in the mail for 5-7 days....  :uhoh:

They're very tough to ship, and you have to ship them when the weather is right. Chameleons are some of the most sensitive lizards out there. If you want stick with a Veiled, Jackon's, or Panther Chameleon to start with. Once you can keep them alive, maybe give Pygmies a try.

That said, I know of two stores in the North NJ area that carry Pygmy Chameleons. I believe they are around $60-$80 each.

Quite a bit to put such a little creature through even if he IS on sale for $19.99......wasn't his choice...  I hope he makes it!

im pretty sure ive heard of reptilcity before, plus they look legit i dunno why they would try to scam someone like that

i am put a bit off by these "restocking" statements tho as if these animals are toaster ovens or something, and even more strange is that they would even accept a return in the first place, i wonder how many animals die being in a box for 2 weeks

I am also interested to see if your chameleon arrives alive and well.  I used to own snakes and lizards all the time as a kid and haven't had any for over 5 years and I feel something like this would be pretty neat seeing how its so tiny and a freakin chameleon!  I live in wisconsin though and it may be too cold at this time of year to bother risking it.  I may call a couple pet stores to see if they carry any but from my experience chameleons are always expensive as fuck. 20$ is a bargain!  It is pretty unethical to ship a reptile though...

popcorn chameleons, ftw!

They're very tough to ship, and you have to ship them when the weather is right. Chameleons are some of the most sensitive lizards out there. If you want stick with a Veiled, Jackon's, or Panther Chameleon to start with. Once you can keep them alive, maybe give Pygmies a try.

yeah, my friend has a Jackson's chameleon named Sgt. Meowenstein and it seems like quite the little asshole to care for. Only drinking dripping water and such.

on the plus side, it's fun to make fun of the way it sways while walking, pretending to be a leaf

we're all like, "you think you're fooling us, but we know you're not really a leaf, you retard", and other such things it doesn't understand

I want a pygmy sloth!

But what I'll probably get is a horned lizard.
They run around wild about three hours north of here,
and though they are notoriously hard to keep alive,
due to specificity of diet, I'm pretty well versed in it.
(not my first rodeo/horny toad )

What Id REALLy love is an australian thorny devil!
so fucking cool.

they are chameleon like as well

I had a Horned Lizard as a kid! Dude was bad ass. I was only able to keep it alive for 6 months though... because I couldn't find any ants in the winter time and ants are the only thing they eat. I gotta admit though, I got damn sick of catching that thing ants because Georgia had mostly fire ants. I got so many fire ant bites that summer while catching that thing food.

And I'm with ya on the Thorny Devils, I've wanted one ever since I first saw them. I don't think they're available in the pet trade though. They're another obligate ant eater so it would be foolish to get one.

excuse me motherfucker?

who asked you to be a negative nancy? nobody. thats right.

the people at Reptile City, actually called me and told me that they only ship on certain days of the week when the weather permits a short, SAFE trip.

these people arent stupid nor are we.

are you honestly so fucking dull and self assured that you think you are better than  anyone?

I'm not one for confrontation but you need to choose your fucking words wisely.

I'm not a freshman in reptiles. i've had the same breeding pairs of iguanas and bearded dragons for almost 5 years now.

i have my setup ready for this little guy and trust me cunt nugget, he'll survive.

take your bullshit back to OTD.  Noone wants you here.

Calm down, if you are scoring from a decent place that sells CBB then Im ok with it.

My animosity is aimed at douche bags who order a wild caught pet, kill it under a heat lamp and some parasites then order another one because it died of unknown causes.

i just want the one to start, because i want to see how easy it would be to have a breeding pair to take care of.

its a different reptile for me, for it should be pretty cool to just observe for awhile.

Its a reptile, once you learn them they are pretty much all the same give or take a couple tricks.

They mostly want water, food, heat, shelter, and sex in a very particular order to get things moving.

Its kind of like growing out cubes except it takes at least a year and you cant fuck up anything at all or you have dead stock and eggs.

i have a roach farm and a cricket farm in a room in  my basement..

also i have a dew worm bed in an old fridge in the back shed that i started composting in before i turned it into a full on worm bed, for fishing and feeding my beardys when they were fully mature and able to eat them..

so i have that covered..

I had to do a whole project for cultivating fruit flies in high school.....I mean....It wasn't the WORST thing I've ever done.....but it wasn't my favorite

I look at their cuteness in the distance and have already decided I do not want to get one....saw the website...didn't order one... I think i'm allowed to think they're cute..I mean...they are!  :smile2:

i feel you.

if i thought there was any real danger being posed to it, i wouldnt have done it.

but they did call and let me know that there are only certain days they will ship and thats all weather dependant.

as i said before though, its the state of the USPS that i'm worried about, what with lost packages, opened and taped envelopes and crushed seeds..

i dont want a crushed chameleon or the dude that hands me the package and i will go a couple rounds..

Was there any reason you didn't want to purchase your own
fire ant colony?

i was always curious how people get those fruitflys into the cage with the lizard and how they keep them in there, does your cage have a screen ontop or is it all glass with a glass door or something?

once that fruitfly culture runs out what u could do is find a plant that holds up to alot of water in there with him then the fruitflys will plant larve in the soil, soppose u could just build a little ledge to hold a peech or something to

have you found out if he drinks water from a bowl or waterfall yet?  back when i had a bearded dragon we had this cool little rockface that dripped water from the top down to multiple pools was pretty neat

Most people breed "wingless" fruit flies to feed small reptiles and amphibians. I say "wingless" because they technically do have wings but they are all mutated and they can't fly. As far as keeping the culture alive, just safe a few of them and give them some mushed up bonanners and the adults eat them and breed and lay eggs in the bonanners and the cycle starts over.

Edit: Toadcastle, parents wouldn't let me keep an ant colony in the house, they already had ant problems and were afraid the colony would break free and carry away all the food in the house while we were sleeping.

i lined the bottom with some slightly hydrated coir, and the fruitflies are wingless so i just opened the jar and tapped a few in.. i noticed last night though he's a night eater. the flies crawled on him all day, checked up on him last night and he was hunting them in the coir.

i've been trying differnt things to see how he likes water and so far if i drip some onto the leaves and let it drip down and pool naturally he loves that, and a good mist everynow and then.

for being a new reptile he's  very well finger trained.. i hold out my finger and he climbs up..

shared our first smoke session last night.. he chilled and turned dark grey on my shoulder.

Also....any names coming to mind now that you're getting to know him?
