If we have a purpose, we don't need to be conscious of it.

I'm asking if you need a purpose in order to enjoy life.

The ego wants a purpose, to achieve something, to DO something.

But I agree its more to just BE. Which can be hard to do.

For me, no.  I spent a good chunk of my life striving for some odd purpose or another, and the chase brought me nothing but anxiety and depression.  I've since veered from that folly, and am completely content with enjoying life as-is, without the concept of "purpose."

Of course, I recognize that some people have built their lives around a purpose, and would be broken if they were to lose it.  To each his own, I suppose.

i think if you felt no purpose at all then you would not do anything whatsoever. to feel compelled to do something you must feel there's a purpose to it.

PURPOSELESSNESS IN INFINITE EXISTENCE

Meher Baba

Reality is Existence infinite and eternal.

Existence has no purpose by virtue of its being real, infinite and eternal.

Existence exists. Being Existence it has to exist. Hence Existence, the Reality, cannot have any purpose. It just is. It is self-existing.

Everything — the things and the beings — in Existence has a purpose. All things and beings have a purpose and must have a purpose, or else they cannot be in existence as what they are. Their very being in existence proves their purpose; and their sole purpose in existing is to become shed of purpose, i.e., to become purposeless.

Purposelessness is of Reality; to have a purpose is to be lost in falseness.

Everything exists only because it has a purpose. The moment that purpose has been accomplished, everything disappears and Existence is manifested as self-existing Self.

Purpose presumes a direction and since Existence, being everything and everywhere, cannot have any direction, directions must always be in nothing and lead nowhere.

Hence to have a purpose is to create a false goal.

Love alone is devoid of all purpose and a spark of Divine Love sets fire to all purposes.

The Goal of Life in creation is to arrive at purposelessness, which is the state of Reality.

Why? I play video games. Theres no real purpose / deeper meaning. Its fun. I guess fun is a purpose. But its not some crazy deep meaning.

I dont think things really need a purpose. Sometime you just do things for the purpose of doing them. I guess that could be a purpose? But like i said before even if there isnt some hidden greater meaning, its still nice to breathe, to be alive, and to just do whatever. You can pretty much do whatever you want in life, no one really forces you to do anything. Money is a huge constraint, but only if you want things requiring money.

video games are just a distraction...

perhaps your mind hinges the allowance of good feelings on your success in the video game...so is the purpose of playing the video game to 'win' so you can feel good?

if we felt okay with having no purpose then we wouldn't feel the need to think and our mind wouldn't feel the need to try and create a stable structure of reality inside assumed chaos

every action has a purpose

if it didn't, there would be no voice in the mind compelling us to perform something in order to _______

We should, we need, we must, we've got to, we have to, we have, we will, we blah, we bleh. So many self-instituted limitations or standards. How about we just breathe into the silence of being and exist within the whole through an unattached awareness and see where that leads?

If you believe in oneness. There is no separateness. If there is nothing else, then there is aloneness.

If you were God and you could do anything and you were infinite (to be infinite you must be nothing, for anything that is thought of named or given anything becomes limited. Nothingness is not limited) wouldn't you create yourself a ballin' ass game?

Think about it in nothingness it is timeless. That means even if you take infinitely long to do something, you will eventually do it.

So make for yourself a ballin' ass game. Put a bunch of people on a planet. No one knows who they are. No one knows what they are doing or supposed to do. Meanwhile you created them all and you are them all (and most of them wont realize it while they are alive). You do it for the fun. You do it because "life is just a game". You do it because you can create. You do it because you love creating.

Life is but a dream, and God is the dreamer. (My opinion & this depiction can be seen in the brahman dreaming)

How exactly does one breath into the silence of being, as opposed to not breath into the silence of being?

Breath moves life force. Breath is one of the most important things for medicine people, shamanic workers, brujos, witches and so on and so forth to fall into the mystery. It is one that designates our mood, sleep, focus and strength or energy.

Sitting in a silent meditation, the breath usually shifts on it's own (unless it's a breathing meditation). Breathing into the silence is, to me, the last breath before the unconscious becomes conscious. In this stage, the beholder is no longer aware of the physical because they have moved into another space of existence, which in turn is the same one with a higher vibration (or less of a distortion).

It's really as close as words can get to something that doesn't exist in the plane of sound. "It is in the silence that the truth awaits."

So you're limiting the truth to silence? I thought you were opposed to self-instituted limitations.

p.s. I'm just being cantankerous.

what? no you're fine. i didn't say it's limited to silence but when we try to perceive something that isn't made with the physical density of this world (it isn't a physical being, it's not a physical entity, it's not a physically sensing vibration. it may reflect through a physical receptor to aim or point us to it, but it is incomprehensible to the human brain, because IT has limits) with something that is from the physical density of this world (ie ears, mouths, noses, touches, nerves, etc.) it slightly distorts it. we can be as truthful as our limits allow us.

i have found that in the truth lies the untouched essence of reality. it is really hard for me to explain it with words because i am still in the middle of a download so everything i speak of is on the fence of nonsense and wisdom. everything we speak of is limited by words. everything we think of is limited by mind. everything we touch, limited by senses, so on and so forth. in the silence, deep within the being lies the infinite Light of truth. it is made up of everything and nothing. it is beyond the physical dimension of the body/mind and exists in the dimension of One Spirit. this is a knowing, an awareness and a being-at-oneness.

i'm not sure if i'm making any sense. this is a really bizarre subject. every word i use furthers the confusion of the reader and furthers the distortion of the writer because it has limit of perspective or interpretation. what you see these words as may not be what i write them to be.

eh... it's not that i don't want to answer i just don't know how to. my experiences do not occur in the plane of words or thought. i cannot even begin to do so. i can, generalize so vaguely that the consciousness carries through the words to those who look but as i said, i am not in any sort of head space to do so. i guess it's like trying to do something you are currently incapable of doing because much healing is needed from recent exposures. i do apologize for any confusion.

Yeah I gathered that you weren't able to explain the experience itself, but I thought you might be able to put into words the effect it has for you here. That's generally more concrete and graspable.
