Society! When you know there's something wrong...
    #1423625 - 04/02/03 03:52 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

...and you've known it all along

I can "stand" society, I really can. That's just because I've trained myself to put up with just about anything.

But society really sucks. It really does.

At least for me. I don't know about all of you.

See I just don't think our society has a place for me. Strange idea? It's not that I don't "fit in"...I have lots of friends. People seem to like me naturally. I'm a likeable guy I guess  :smirk:

So I fit in socially but I don't fit into Society. Know what I mean?

Am I too smart or something? See I'm far enough above "average" intelligence to notice it, if you know what I mean. Instead of being a good thing, this...aspect...of my life causes me an insane ammount of problems.

I recently quit school. I had one more year to go in a 4 year honours degree in Computer Science. You know what 3 years of University taught me? It's a waste of my time.

I didn't learn a damn thing in 3 years. Nothing. Everything they tried to teach me...I had already learned on my own. I became so incredibly bored with my schooling that I had to leave or I would snap. You know what it feels like trying to force yourself into one field when you KNOW you're just as good in all the others?

And now, because I'm too smart for my own good, I will be cast aside by Society. Tossed out because I just can't LIMIT myself to a societal norm. It's insane. I want to scream.

I'm happy with the choices I've made in my life, and I'm happy with the direction I'm going in. It leaves me time in my days to do whatever I want, whenever I want. It's beautiful. I get so much accomplished now in my life.

But I get nothing accomplished in Society. Work of any kind in this society of ours is just too repetitive and limiting for me to handle.

I would seriously pull out of Society if I could. Pack up and leave it all behind. Find some small corner of the world where the governments will just leave me be to my own devices.

But I like people too much to leave.

I'm afraid that far too few people will understand me, understand my decisions, or understand what I mean. I'm happy, and my only stress comes from being forced to deal with aspects of society that I want nothing to do with. But my family and many of my friends don't seem to understand this. They think they can "help" me. They think I need help.

Except, from my angle, it's them that need help. It's them that are unhappy. It's them that lead pointless lives without understanding just what they're doing.

This sucks

I feel ya man. Same damn thing is happening to me. I'm fluncking out of school because classes are so fucking boring for me. I learn nothing.

It's your life. If you feel that you need to leave society in order to be happy, then that's your choice. It's what life seems to be all about - the pursuit of happiness.

Do what you have to do.

Yes, life is about the pursuit of happiness.

Sometimes, well most of the time, I feel like most people just don't know it.

If I did not know better I would have read your thread and thought I was reading something about myself (minus the comp science part.)  I have always thought that a formal education would be the best way for me to further myself.  Well I have now wasted enough of my parents money to know that college is worse than high school.  I feel like I am wasting my brain by allowing it to be taught and further forced into the societal norm.  I would rather be learning on my own, and I feel that I have learned more about chemistry here at the Shroomery from beloved members like chinacat than I did in my AP chem class.  I know that if I take a college chem course it will wreck my love for the last subject I still have fun with.  College has destroyed my enjoyment for astronomy and business and I can no longer lay under the skies and gaze admirably at the stars without hearing my profs annoying voice claiming he is right. Unfortunately he wasn't right all that often and I found it hard to learn the untrue and more insulting than anything else.  I am not anti-social and at the same time I can no longer stand the lecherous, attached style of present society.

Do you also feel sorry for the way modern society has allowed our prohibitory government to influence our every action?

Do you see the future of our society failing miserably as the institution becomes unstoppable and every last right stolen?

Do you hate that the government  STEALS our income from us before we can decide to support its policies and programs?

Does your intelligence leave you more frustrated because you can not just be ignorant and forget and are constantly battling the less intelligent about minuscule items that they can not accept?

The list goes on and on and will never stop until a new revolution in societal patterns changes the basic structure of our government.  Until then we are trapped with our tails betwen our legs, while the government consistantly strips us of our basic insticts.  I have not been able to share these thoughts with anyone as most do not undestand and I thank you for that, Trendal.  Fortunately our generation is becoming more and more restless, I can see it in the eyes of the students as I walk down the halls and streets of campus and even in some of the older generation that works as professionals and I believe a major change will happen soon .

Yeah I know what you mean.

I think society in general though is selfish. Everybody, at the end of the day, looks out for #1. You need to start doing the same, do the things that make you happy and live the way you want to. Once you're doing that, maybe you'll see you're just like everybody else?

Exactly

My dad got into computers just after I was born, so I was introduced to them YEARS before most others I know. I spent my whole life with computers. Now I don't care about them the same way. I'm a user, not a leet haxor  :smirk:

All because of University. It bored the love of computers out of my head

Do you also feel sorry for the way modern society has allowed our prohibitory government to influence our every action?
I fell it is an inevitable step in societal evolution. A very unhappy, but necessary, step. Change will come at the right time. Just sucks for those of us before our time

Do you see the future of our society failing miserably as the institution becomes unstoppable and every last right stolen?
Maybe. It's something I'm afraid of. It has happened elsewhere. There's always a chance of going the other way. There may be a point.

Do you hate that the government STEALS our income from us before we can decide to support its policies and programs?
Yes. But I feel some policies are necessary.

Thanks man

And that is something the forefather's of our government never, ever wanted.

From "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe:"

"To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who want to rule people are, ipso facto, those lease suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made Presiden should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are the problem."

All I hope is that our generation can change this because I feel that much longer will leave irrepairable damage.

You're not alone, man. I've recently stopped going to lectures all together and am now only showing up to hand in assignments and take tests (and I'm still pulling a 3.8). I graduate in two months (graphic design), so luckily I don't have to fake it much longer. I only went back for the piece of paper. But yeah. I've been dreading the inevitable job searching after college, simply because I don't think I can function in a typical advertising/design job. I was bored to tears during an intership at a design studio and like many other people, felt extremely uncomfortable dressing up, even casually.

If you ever find it, give me a sign. I'll come over there.

Society does what it does, the suckin thing is that it forces you to be a constant member of it.

I understand you fully without any sociaty based content added to it.
Lets talk more.. So we can aline to one level.

If only there was a way to remove all and I mean every last one of us thinkers and creaters from the binds that are tied around us by our government.  A revolution of sorts where we make the demands before we will come back to society and participate in it.  This would only work though, when the government realized how vital our kind is and how necessary the creative intelligence is for a productive society.  If only John Galt was here. :smirk:

I think eventually you hit a breaking point, where you realize that society will not change and you are lucky to have avoided it. I think this everyday as I watch people go by. I'm in college, I'm going to university....I'm bored out of my mind....but I'm also so curious to see what it is that we are being brainwashed with....and I've been watching people just take it all in for years now...while I'm sitting in the back of the class just laughing....there have been occasions when I have actually laughed out loud and then been removed when I've explained how absurd some of the prof's ideas are. They seem to really dislike it when you can prove them wrong. Thats what I do everyday tho...I sit there and fight to get the message across that this stuff that their feeding us isn't real, its crap all of it, its stuff we already know, but have been conditioned to forget. I still can't figure out why I'm headed to university, maybe its the amusement factor of being right in the middle of it all and still seeing it for what it is....that or the fact that I need the degree to get to that spot where I can help others challenge all that they see.....

A really long time ago my mom told me that my thoughts were "wrong", my way of thinking was "wrong" she said she worried about how I'd manage with the rest of society....this was the moment I knew I'd be ok.

Lol. The more people try and tell me my ideas don't fit in, the more I realize how correct I am.

Ah, but everthing is not so simple. Intelligence attracts intelligence. A thread of this nature is not all that welcoming to some types of people. We consider our selves of higher intelligence obviously because we see ourselves surrounded by ignorance, naivety, and those who just do not seem to keep up. It is not because I am arogant, it is simply because I have always been told that I am above average intelligence. After a while I began to see it and I am an extremely well learned individual. I graduated Salutatorian, scored above thirty composite on my ACT (36 on science), and when given the chance someday will change the world.
