Outdoor Patch
    #1423518 - 04/02/03 05:12 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

So my friend was wondering if he can put his cakes outside while it is still sorta chilly outside. He was thinking that aslong as the weather wont kill them, then once the weather gets about right the mycelium will start to eat and then grow? Is this right or should he wait tell it gets warmer?

It depends. How cold is it?

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson

dude, wait for the last freeze of the season before you move your cakes outside. I think it has to bee at LEAST 60 degrees f. outside for them to grow.

60-100 degrees is optimal, according to moes outdoor tek. whats the rh like where you live? if its high, watering shouldnt be a problem, but if its low, it might be.

'Scuse me for jumping in but - what's the deal about cakes outside? Do you mean BRF/Vermiculite cakes or the Oak/Bran cakes for wood eaters?

You'll need to keep the air around them humid some how, Maybe chop the cakes up, mix in some pure past.'d cow manure, sprinkle grass seeds over, the grass should act as a humidity tent.

Well if you can answer all my questions then can I use something else other then cow dung to make a bed for them? I was thinking of making a bed of dead sticks and leaves dunked in water then top the cakes off with dead grass and grass hay? Will this work or should I go get some shit?

I'm not sure, probably something other than manure, but why? Manure is only $2.50/big bag.
