Talk about a BAD trip

So awhile ago, I had a friend decided to take advantage of a beautiful day and go hiking/rappelling at a local climbing area with a few doses coursing through his brain. He is a very experienced/safe climber, but he apparently took too much to be as responsible as he needed to be. He was rappelling using a trad anchor (cammed metalgear), and in mid-rappel, his anchor popped out and he fell 60-70 feet and decked! He is ok now, but he broke dozens of bones and suffered from some internal injuries also. I always debate, given you would have fallen and survived either way, whether or not being on acid would make that experience better or worse. On one hand, you would be in less pain on acid, which could allow you to keep some composure, but I have a feeling looking at your bones protruding from your skin while tripping would be GNARLY. What do you guys think or have you been injured while tripping?

I wouldn't say a dick, but he definatley became too comfortable with his mental and physical abilities. What a way to learn a lesson.

Yeah, that's tough luck, even if he was pushing it way too far.
But no, I haven't been daft enough to put myself in a position to run a real risk of bodily harm while tripping. I imagine that shit would suck real hard.

Id rather injure myself sober (or PCP, lol)
I cant even imagine the mental aspect of serious injuries on LSD...

Wow, I hope your friend will be okay,he should be.
How are your climbing skills/knowledge? Double checking each other's knots, gear, and anchors is crucial for either's safety, its called redundancy. This isn't the safest of activities in such a mental state ,but not one I would totally avoid.
I've had an ambulance ride to the emergency room on a ten strip of LSD back in the day after a car accident. I ran a stop sign and smacked a ford explorer while I was driving a honda hatchback. The explorer rolled and I almost launched through the windshield. Luckily no one was seriously injured. It really sucked being straped to that gurney, and when I got to the hospital I was put in a room with a convulsing stab victim who needed lots of valium to control said convultions. It felt like I was some crazed science experiment in there.
I was checking out the scars from the rearview mirror on my forehead this morning. Needless to say Driving and tripping don't mix..

What?!?!? There is NO way driving is safer than climbing. Climbing is extremely safe if you know what you are doing, and you are in control of the outcome unless some freak accident happens, which is rare. With proper gear/knowledge, the only injuries you'll get climbing is scrapes and bruises (and an occasional pulled tendon, in my case now)And btw I am very aware of climbing safety, I was not with him when this incident occurred

Isn't it the same story for driving, though? Minus the cuts and bruises?

Not necessarily, think how many drivers are on the road texting, not paying attention, or just being shitty drivers. Some accidents are unavoidable and have nothing to do with your driving abilities. Climbing consists of just you and your trusted partner. If anything happens is a result of one of your actions. Plus rarely do people die climbing (except the occasional free-soloist) unlike driving, which kills hundreds or thousands on a daily basis.

The only problem with driving is the potential to harm/injure other people not involved in your activity, or the other way around. It was a hard lesson to learn, one which many of us are still completely oblivious to, one that took me about ten years to actually assimilate. We all run around thinking it will never happen to me..

I cant imagine what was going through his head during the freefall.
Falling far distances sober is already intense enough, I couldn't imagine the impact on LSD. Probably heard each and every individual bone crack/splinter in his body.
Talk about terrible.

Definitely sounds like an interesting experience. Tripping while engaging in dangerous activities is fun and important imo.
Recognizance of said dangerous activity is equally important however. I think that a sober trip sitter should be in place to help with any complications, everything should take place on a closed course and extra safety precautions should be taken (2 trad anchors instead of 1; is that possible?)
Filling life with experience is a great way to do time.

K. Go eat acid, fall 70 feet onto a bunch of rocks, and tell me you've never had a bad trip.

You don't think being in immense pain and nearly dying would affect your trip?
And yes, it is having a bad time while tripping. That is exactly what a bad trip is...
