I hear that a snake is a common vision when on ayahuasca and the natives believe there is a snake spirit in the vine so that got me thinking maybe the 'snake' in the garden of eden was ayahuasca? But then what was the fruit? And the bible portrays the 'snake' as evil? how could ayahuasca be evil?
anyway just a thought

Read "The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge" by anthropologist and psychonaut, Jeremy Narby.
The entire book is a discussion of the significance of the serpent in Ayahuasca-using and other cultures.

I think Jeremy Narby raises some interesting points but I ultimately think the whole concept is a fallacy.

The snake represents humanity.Represents the process of the animal transcending his own dependence of primal instincts and nature, liberating himself and becoming aware of himself. It is the path that we are all born to follow. It`s in our DNA,it`s our asleep potential power.

The Snake is "evil" because it represents the door to all the knowledge the church doesn't want you to know. From a gnostic point of view, metaphorically you should eat the apple (represents psychedelics) and the snake is there to point you in the right direction. When humanity gained all this knowledge it became like god, and no longer had a place in the garden with the rest of the animals.

I don't know but when I took San Pedro Cactus once I felt possessed by a snake entity and was slithering on the floor.

I always thought it was interesting to note that in the book of genesis, right there in black and white, this concept should be clear.
God lies to adam and eve, telling them that when they eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they shall surely die. The serpent speaks the truth by letting them know that their eyes shall be opened and they will become as gods.
But yeah, you can take the garden of eden parable wherever you like more or less... that's what's so compelling about it.
Anyway, I think the mythical serpent has something to do with knowledge encoded within DNA. Something that was commonly accessed by pre-biblical cultures of the kind that built the pyramids. Something of which biblical cultures inherited only tiny pieces; just fragmented memories and stories and interesting parables.
