LMAO great idea, not sure where to get a cat though. he says he tried them before, and that other info i said already. i thinking about trusting him but id really rather have some proof. its one thing to od on something on vomit it up but another to actually die if its poison.

Not a good idea to feed them to a cat :mad2:.  At least use a mouse or something instead.  Anyway, the evidence seems to suggest that you probably shouldn't eat them.

This is my opinion as well. Any time someone gives you free "magic" mushrooms, they better know the species. If the species can't be provided, they would go into my trash IMO. Sorry man.

At the top of the page, look under Mushroom Info > Find Mushrooms and look through that stuff.  Focus on the ones that are known to grow in the region you live in.

This site and google really have all the info you will ever need, and some of the best help, fungi wise, on the internet. Just spend lots of your free time researching, reading, and looking at pictures. You'll start to understand what you wanna look for, and where. But for this time of year, your best bet would be Panaeolus cinctulus IMO. Make sure you know what actives grow in your area http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-psilocybin-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area, and research the hell out of them. Best of luck to ya.

You find random mushrooms and think they are called a made up phantasy name but nevertheless want to eat them? Really? Wow. Your approach to mycology is bound to end you up in hospital.

Um mushroom poisoning can take a day or 2 to show up and cause your liver and/or kidneys to fail...

I don't know if 1 cap is enough to cause poisoning, if it is an active species then 1 cap will probably not be enough to feel effects.  I strongly suggest you don't eat them, and if your friend gets any food-poisoning like symptoms then he should go the hospital.

I hope you didn't encourage him to do that, there are lbms that are deadly poisonous.

Borrow a nice digital camera from a friend and get some good pictures please.

What color of the gills?

You don't have Psilocybe cubensis, maybe something from Panaeolus like Panaeolus cinctulus or P. cyanescens.

If the gills are jet black then its ok to eat and the mushrooms are not toxic.  If the gills are brown don't eat them.

It is not an easy spot method. while no particularly dangerous mushrooms have black spores, it is on step in a network of observations which are used to tell different groups of mushrooms from one another.

Also remember from this that black is not relative. e.g. on this board, we see constant references from people to features being 'blackish brown' or 'blackish purple', etc. there is no such thing as blackish.

If your friend truly ate one of these, you should do him/her a favor and issue at least a little bit of a backhand.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

My mistake. I must have missed that bit. I thought he picked them himself. Apologies, OP.

Thats what I was thinking.... leaning toward pan cinc.  Thats what they looked like to me.  Hard to tell with the bad pictures.
