PF TEK WITHOUT Sterilization of Substrate
#14232557 - 04/03/11 06:35 PM (12 years, 9 months ago) |

I created 8 jars using PF TEK procedure exactly except I did not sterilize my substrate - i.e., I did not put the filled jars into a pressure cooker or anything before innoculating them.
Result - 100% Contamination with greens, reds, blacks, yellows - a virtual rainbow of contamination.
I then burried the contaminated cakes - I will let you know if any thing grows or I die.
Next, I am going to do the same thing, with the same jars, but this time I'am going to use Hydrogen Peroxide.

2 Fold;
1) What reduction in contamination is seen from Hydrogen Peroxide
2) What is the success rate of moving contaminated cakes to an outdoor environment (Pasturized Cow Dung and Straw)

you're going to have a zero% success rate...
mold is eating your substrate before the spores of mushrooms even has a chance to think about mating and colonizing..

Established procedures became standard practice because they work. It's great to reinvent the wheel from time to time, but be aware there are great teks to be followed.

Ok, I admit to being completely new to this; I was not aware that Trich produced mycelium or that Trich would appear as similar to mushroom mycelium?

The PF TEK is not a mystery - it is explained clearly on this site.
It is not that I don't understand the technique, it is that I choose to make one change and test the results.
It may be a waste of time and resources - I am ok with that; that is part of the cost of experimenting.
The cakes were all solid white and very well held together by what ever what strand like mycelium had taken them over. Each instance of mold was isolated to an area no bigger than a dime in most cases or much smaller.
I will let you know how it all comes out.

Experiment 2: I severed my middle finger using a rusty, dull razorblade.
Results: 100% missing middle finger. My hand is bleeding, I have tetanus, and a nasty infection.
Thank you for this important work.

The mushroom videos are a much better way to learn to produce mushrooms.

Could you repeat the experiment, but this time, immediately after severing, pour h2o2 on it and report back whether or not it's still missing?

just an FYI, it doesn't matter if you put 10cc's of the spores in or 1-2cc's in the jar. you probably reduce the probability of a grow with more than 2. also,
