Ready to birth
    #14231851 - 04/03/11 04:16 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I'm ready to birth my cakes. I've heard about misting and fanning but I'm not sure exactly when to do it and how often. And also I dont have perlite so what should I put at the bottom of the container?

Can somebody run me through the process?

Buy perlite from Lowes.
Dunk for 24 hours then roll in dry verm .
Did you let the jars consolidate for a week after full colonization?
Mist before fan/fan twice as much as  misting.
Fan for 60 sec about every hour or so.
If you don't have the right lighting just use indirect sunlight.

You're not a mycologist just because you grow mushrooms.

Vermiculite? If so yes Lowes has it I found it right next to the perlite.

any gardening center should carry both perlite and vermiculite..

mist, then fan, 3-5 times per day.

What does dunk mean? And what does consolidate mean? One of my jar cakes already has 2 shrooms growing through the top of the dry verm layer and there are many pins forming.

Does the water have to be sterilized or boiled beforehand or can I use filtered water and a nonsterilized mister? And also could I just use moist vermiculite or a wet paper towel at the bottom of the fruiting chamber (I think thats what the container is called).

Don't use paper towels or vermiculite. Get perlite it's not expensive
