Roll up in here with some pennies

Times are hard, I'm trying to get some ciggs but all I have is two dollars and a bunch of pennies.
Store won't take pennies unless they are rolled. It's a little country gas station I go to every day BTW.
If I just made my own penny rolls out of paper and clear tape do you think the store would take it?

I doubt it but
You can probably go to a bank and exchange your loose pennies for rolls

I've bagged them up 50 at a time in sandwich bags and had a clerk take pity on me.

I've rolled them in paper plenty of times...you'll have about a 50/50 chance they will take it...if they say no just ask them if they will count every single penny..it is legal money after all. might accept them just to get rid of ya if you're persistent.

I have uses paper from a grocery bag. Looks just like a regular roll except it is blank. All they have to do is measure it against another roll to check the size.
I once put in about 2.50 in gas in my car (back when that was actually 2+ gallons). I went up to pay with a pocket full of change and the lady said,"lucky we are not busy or I would not take it". Which is when I thought, fine by me I already have the gas.
Take the pennies bitch!

They didn't have any empty rolls but they took pity on me and took my bags of pennies. Hell, least I got some ciggs now.

For a purchase of ten dollars or more, the seller may request that coins no smaller than dimes be used.

A lot of places reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Don't they have to have a legitimate reason to refuse service. Like if your really drunk trying to buy beer, or you cause a disturbance in their establishment?

The Federal Civil Rights Act guarantees all people the right to "full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin."
The right of public accommodation is also guaranteed to disabled citizens under the Americans with Disabilities Act, which precludes discrimination by businesses on the basis of disability.
Any other reason is fair game unless your state had different laws.

I think that federal Civil Rights Act is specific to acquiring employment, medical assistance, police assistance. Things like that.
I doubt it has anything to do with a gas station and them providing you service.

When I used to buy beer and was broke as shit, I just went to the local store with a coinstar instead of trying to pay for a 6pk with pennies.
Sure there was an 8.9 cent charge per dollar of change, but it worth 10x more than that for my dignity.
